Job Description Job Title: Mechanical Assembler text Assembler 8 4 7 5 8 0 2 8 1 4 if you are interested Job Description The Mechanical Assembler is responsible for building low and medium voltage electrical switchgear cabinets from start to finish. In this role, you interpret blueprints and work orders, gather appropriate materials and hardware, and use hand and power tools to construct modular steel cabinets and copper bus assemblies. You follow detailed work instructions, perform basic inspections, and ensure that every product meets established quality standards. Responsibilities • Interpret assembly, elevation, and wiring diagrams to build electrical switchgear cabinets accurately., • Construct modular steel cabinets and copper bus assemblies according to engineering specifications., • Read and use a tape measure with precision, including working with fractions and decimals., • Select and gather appropriate materials, hardware, and components based on blueprints and work orders., • Use manual hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers to perform mechanical assembly tasks., • Operate power tools including drills, impact tools, pneumatic torque wrenches, saws, grinders, and other shop equipment safely and effectively., • Perform mechanical assembly work that may include framing, heavy assembly, machine building, and basic automotive-type tasks such as oil changes when needed., • Apply knowledge of electrical symbols and schematics to support proper assembly and wiring of cabinets., • Follow detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality output., • Perform basic inspections of completed assemblies to verify quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications., • Maintain a clean and organized work area and handle tools and equipment with care., • Collaborate with fabrication, welding, wiring, and assembly teams to support end-to-end manufacturing processes., • Manage time effectively to meet production schedules and productivity goals., • Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members regarding progress, issues, and suggestions for improvement., • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and contribute ideas to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency. Essential Skills • At least 2 years of experience as a Mechanical Assembler, Machine Builder, Automotive Mechanic, or similar role in a job shop environment rather than an assembly line., • Ability to interpret and work from assembly drawings, elevation drawings, blueprints, and wiring diagrams., • Knowledge of electrical symbols and schematics relevant to switchgear and cabinet assembly., • Proficiency in using manual hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and other basic hand tools., • Proficiency in using power tools including drills, impact tools, pneumatic torque wrenches, power drills, saws, and grinders., • Ability to use shop equipment safely and effectively in a fabrication and assembly environment., • Strong mechanical assembly skills, including construction, framing, and heavy assembly work., • Ability to read a tape measure accurately and perform basic math functions, including working with fractions and decimals., • Ability to read, write, and converse fluently in English at a level that supports safe and effective performance in the role., • Demonstrated commitment to producing quality work and following detailed work instructions. Work Environment You work in a clean, modern, and comfortably climate-controlled manufacturing facility with approximately 60 employees. The operation manages the full production process on-site, including fabrication, welding, wiring, and assembly, providing exposure to a wide range of equipment, tools, and processes. The environment is organized and professionally designed to support safe, efficient work with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment used daily in the assembly of electrical switchgear cabinets. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Franklin Park, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
