Job Description Location: Petaluma, California Pay: $30 per hour Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Important Experience Requirement This is a skilled, hands-on finishing position within a custom fabrication shop. We are seeking candidates with at least two years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: • Woodworking or cabinetry, • Furniture or millwork production, • Acrylic or plastic fabrication, • Composite-material fabrication, • Custom manufacturing or exhibit fabrication, • Precision sanding, buffing, polishing, or surface preparation This is not an automotive-finishing, house-painting, or general warehouse position. Our work includes museum displays, luxury retail installations, cabinetry, furniture, architectural components, and custom pieces produced for designers, artists, wineries, and nationally recognized brands. Our 16,000-square-foot Petaluma facility is equipped with advanced fabrication equipment and staffed by experienced craftspeople who take pride in accuracy, appearance, and quality. Position Overview The Wood & Composite Finishing Technician is responsible for preparing, sanding, buffing, polishing, flame polishing, cleaning, and inspecting custom-fabricated components. You will work with acrylic, composite materials, and wood to produce smooth, consistent, client-ready surfaces that meet strict visual and dimensional quality standards. The successful candidate is comfortable working with hand tools and shop equipment, can accurately follow work orders and drawings, and takes pride in producing clean, high-quality finished work. What You Will Do • Sand, buff, polish, and flame polish acrylic and composite components., • Sand, prepare, and finish wood, cabinetry, furniture, and custom-fabricated components., • Remove scratches, tool marks, surface imperfections, and other visible defects., • Use orbital sanders, buffers, polishers, torches, air tools, and standard shop equipment safely., • Inspect completed parts for surface consistency, appearance, fit, and overall quality., • Read and follow work orders, measurements, shop drawings, and verbal instructions., • Complete final cleaning and preparation before products move to assembly, packaging, or delivery., • Identify and report damaged materials, surface defects, or production concerns., • Maintain finishing tools and keep the work area clean, safe, and organized., • Work efficiently and independently after training., • Assist with assembly, material handling, packaging, and crate preparation when needed., • Follow all company safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment. Required Qualifications • At least two years of professional experience in woodworking, cabinetry, furniture production, custom fabrication, acrylic fabrication, composites, manufacturing, or a closely related trade., • Professional experience with sanding, buffing, polishing, surface preparation, or detailed finishing work., • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, sanders, polishers, buffers, and other shop equipment., • Strong measurement and basic math skills., • Ability to read a tape measure accurately., • Ability to follow work orders, shop drawings, and production instructions., • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify minor surface imperfections., • Ability to maintain quality while working efficiently., • Reliable attendance and punctuality., • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds., • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and perform repetitive hands-on work throughout the shift. Preferred Backgrounds Candidates may be especially successful in this position if they have worked as a: • Wood finisher, • Cabinetmaker or cabinet shop technician, • Furniture finisher or furniture maker, • Millwork fabricator, • Acrylic or plastic fabricator, • Composite technician, • Custom fabrication technician, • Exhibit or display fabricator, • Finish carpenter, • Production woodworker Experience with acrylic, solid-surface materials, composites, flame polishing, or high-end custom products is highly desirable.
