QUALITY INSPECTOR-1st Shift Available Job Description The Quality Inspector supports manufacturing by performing detailed inspections, managing change orders, and reviewing production documentation to ensure components and materials meet all requirements. This role splits time between hands-on inspection activities and thorough documentation review within electronic quality and manufacturing systems. The position requires strong attention to detail, precise use of measurement tools, and consistent use of ERP, MES, and QMS systems to maintain product quality and support a regulated manufacturing environment. Responsibilities • Perform inspections and release critical components as assigned, ensuring they meet all specified requirements., • Manage and document inspections within ERP, MES, and QMS systems, including conducting receiving inspections for incoming materials., • Review and process manufacturing change orders and associated documentation with each manufacturing team, ensuring accuracy and compliance., • Document all inspection activities clearly and accurately, and communicate any defects or issues in a timely manner to relevant stakeholders., • Identify conforming versus nonconforming parts and materials, determining what passes and what does not according to specifications., • Document nonconformances against requirements and support investigations into defective materials as needed., • Support Operations teams by prioritizing inspections to maintain continuity in the production process and minimize delays., • Perform material sorting to separate conforming parts from nonconforming parts based on inspection results., • Review production documentation, including engineering drawings and batch records, to verify requirements and inspection criteria., • Use templates and work instructions to capture the most important notes related to each part and ensure consistent inspection practices., • Communicate inspection results and material status back to the warehouse and other internal teams to support inventory and production planning., • Conduct visual inspections, including using a microscope and Dyno-Lite scope on a regular basis to evaluate small or detailed components., • Use calipers and other measuring tools to take precise measurements, including averaging multiple measurements as needed., • Operate or read data from tools such as CNC machines, mechanical optics, test fixtures, micrometers, and other measuring equipment to complete inspections., • Perform assigned inspection tasks as directed, ensuring all work aligns with procedures, GDP (Good Documentation Practices), and quality standards., • Work closely with team members to divide inspection work effectively and coordinate interdepartmental activities., • Utilize Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet tools to record, track, and analyze inspection data and documentation., • Maintain good communication with production, supply chain, and office staff to ensure alignment on priorities and material status., • Apply basic Lean Six Sigma concepts where applicable to support continuous improvement in inspection and documentation processes., • Adhere to all procedures and regulatory expectations associated with working in a regulated industry environment. Essential Skills • Proven experience in inspection, preferably in a medical device or other regulated manufacturing environment., • Ability to identify conforming versus nonconforming parts and determine what passes or fails based on requirements., • Strong experience with calipers and other precise measurement tools; caliper experience is necessary and not trainable., • Hands-on experience with visual inspection, including use of microscopes and Dyno-Lite scopes., • Experience working with ERP, MES, and QMS systems to manage inspections and documentation., • Demonstrated experience with manufacturing processes and document review, including change orders., • Previous experience with GDP (Good Documentation Practices) in prior roles., • Good computer skills, including regular use of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications; ability to perform digital and documentation work in various systems is required and not trainable., • Knowledge of tools and equipment needed to complete inspections, including micrometers, calipers, CNC machines, test fixtures, mechanical optics, and other measuring equipment., • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment, multi-task, and prioritize various inspections., • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting findings and collaborating with cross-functional teams., • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working in a small, team-oriented environment., • Analytical, meticulous, and detail-oriented mindset with sound judgment in evaluating parts and documentation., • Ability to sit, stand, and walk regularly and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds., • Ability to work frequently with computer monitors and read written documents and technical drawings. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Working experience in a regulated industry such as aerospace, medical device, or biotech is strongly preferred., • Experience with quality control, quality assurance, quality inspection, and visual inspection processes., • Familiarity with assembly environments and inspection of hardware, components, cables, plastic consumables, gaskets, and related parts., • Knowledge of inventory management systems and their use in supporting inspection and material control., • Basic knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodologies is an advantage., • Comfort reading data from software associated with CNC machines or mechanical optics., • Experience with interdepartmental coordination between production, supply chain, warehouse, and office staff., • Ability to follow detailed work instructions and templates for documenting inspection notes and results. Work Environment The role operates on a daytime schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, there is flexibility to work either 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., depending on business needs and personal preference where applicable. You work as part of a small, collaborative team with regular interaction across the production floor, supply chain, and office staff. The position requires frequent use of computers, MS Office, ERP/MES/QMS systems, microscopes, Dyno-Lite scopes, calipers, micrometers, CNC-related tools, and other measuring equipment. The environment is fast-paced and regulated, with a strong focus on accuracy, documentation, and adherence to procedures. Physical activities include sitting, standing, walking, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds, as well as regular use of a computer monitor and reading technical documents and drawings. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
