Job Description Job Title: Sr Mechanical Engineer Job Description This Sr Mechanical Engineer role provides critical mechanical engineering support across proposals and project execution for complex industrial systems, including technologies such as anaerobic digestion, power-to-gas, waste fuel boilers, and flue gas treatment systems. The engineer plans, designs, executes, and supports commissioning activities, ensuring that all mechanical designs meet technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements while aligning with North American market standards. This position also supports business development efforts by contributing technical documentation, presentations, and input to bids and proposals. Responsibilities • Provide mechanical engineering support to proposal and project teams for planning, design, execution, and commissioning of products and systems, including anaerobic digestion, power-to-gas, waste fuel boilers, and flue gas treatment solutions., • Perform equipment sizing calculations and prepare mechanical documentation such as equipment specifications, datasheets, sizing calculations, equipment lists, and P&IDs to support proposals, RFQs, and procurement activities., • Execute the mechanical engineering scope on complex FEED, EP, EPC, and BOO projects, ensuring all designs comply with internal standards, contractual obligations, and applicable regulatory requirements., • Develop and maintain the technical quality of mechanical engineering deliverables while adhering to agreed-upon budgets, schedules, and project milestones., • Support business development and sales teams by preparing and delivering technical presentations, contributing technical documentation, and developing ITB (Invitation to Bid) deliverables., • Participate in plot plan, 3D model, P&ID, and safety reviews (including HAZID and HAZOP/SIL) for both proposals and active projects., • Facilitate technical discussions with customers, business partners, suppliers, and internal departments to support engineering decisions and resolve complex issues., • Identify, evaluate, and recommend cost and schedule improvement opportunities, presenting fact-based recommendations for review and implementation., • Maintain and adapt the mechanical and piping knowledge base for products and systems to ensure alignment with North American market requirements., • Ensure compliance with work instructions, standard practices, policies, and quality standards throughout all mechanical engineering activities., • Collaborate with vendors to specify, size, and procure industrial equipment such as piping systems, chillers, valves, and tanks., • Contribute to process system optimization, performance improvement, and cost or utility reduction initiatives across projects., • Support on-site construction, installation, start-up, and commissioning activities as needed, helping to ensure successful project delivery. Essential Skills • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field., • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering for complex industrial systems, including both proposal development and project execution., • 7+ years of experience developing technical requirements for industrial equipment, including defining specifications and performance criteria., • Proven experience specifying, sizing, and procuring industrial equipment such as piping systems, chillers, valves, and tanks., • Demonstrated expertise in equipment sizing calculations and preparation of mechanical documentation, including specifications, datasheets, P&IDs, and equipment lists for RFQ and procurement activities., • Experience executing mechanical engineering scope on FEED, EP, EPC, or BOO projects., • Experience in process system optimization, performance improvement, and cost or utility reduction initiatives., • Experience in one or more of the following industries: renewable energy, gas processing, chemical, power, waste management, or environmental control/air quality systems., • Ability to participate in and contribute to plot plan, 3D model, P&ID, and safety reviews such as HAZID and HAZOP/SIL., • Strong communication skills to facilitate technical discussions with customers, partners, suppliers, and internal teams., • Proven track record as a contributor to successful industrial proposals and projects of varying scale. Additional Skills & Qualifications • EIT or PE registration is preferred., • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred., • On-site construction, installation, start-up, and commissioning experience is preferred., • Experience working directly with vendors to identify, evaluate, and purchase mechanical and piping equipment., • Experience in mechanical design and piping design for industrial systems., • Ability to support business development and sales teams with technical presentations and ITB deliverables., • Strong organizational skills to maintain technical quality within budget and schedule constraints. Work Environment The role operates in a hybrid on-site office environment, combining in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and collaboration. The typical schedule includes three days in the office and two days working from home. The position follows a flexible compressed work schedule, either a 9/80 schedule or a pattern of four 9-hour shifts and one 4-hour shift within the pay period. Work involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, participation in plot plan and 3D model reviews, and interaction with vendors and project stakeholders. The environment centers on modern engineering tools and documentation practices, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and adherence to established standards and procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Knoxville, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $57.69 - $72.11/hr.
