Job Description Job Title: Construction Inspector Job Description The Construction Inspector serves as the on-site representative for local agency infrastructure projects across Michigan, with a primary focus on watermain and sewer replacement projects in the Detroit and Metro Detroit area. This role ensures that construction work complies with project specifications and drawings, maintains high standards of quality and safety, and provides accurate documentation and communication to support successful project delivery. The position offers long-term contract work with the potential to transition to a direct role and involvement in a wide range of municipal infrastructure improvements. Responsibilities • Interpret project specifications and working drawings and clearly communicate requirements to contractors to ensure all work is built according to plan., • Perform thorough field inspections and construction observations on watermains, sanitary and sewer systems, street repairs, sidewalks, ADA ramps, roadways, and other site structures., • Coordinate material testing and sampling and ensure all inspection and testing equipment is properly maintained., • Accurately obtain, record, and organize field data and prepare comprehensive field reports, including Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs)., • Use Microsoft Office to prepare documentation, reports, and correspondence and to support clear communication with project stakeholders., • Maintain open and proactive communication with project staff, contractors, and other stakeholders, keeping them informed of progress and potential issues., • Record daily construction quantities to support accurate review and verification of contractor payment requests., • Understand and adhere to all public health and safety requirements and ensure proper safety procedures are followed on site., • Collaborate with project staff to address design changes, field challenges, and unforeseen conditions in a timely and practical manner., • Perform quantity calculations and verify installed quantities against plans and specifications., • Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment in good working condition and report any issues promptly., • Use construction-related software platforms such as AASHTOWare, Field Book, Project Wise, Bluebeam, e-Builder, MetaField, or Appia, as applicable to the project., • Support construction activities on City of Highland Park, City of Detroit, Detroit Water and Sewer Department, and other municipal infrastructure projects., • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall project success and meet client expectations. Essential Skills • At least 5 years of construction inspection and/or construction observation experience., • Proven experience on municipal infrastructure projects such as watermain, sewer, sanitary systems, sidewalks, ADA ramps, roadways, and site structures., • Strong experience in construction inspection, construction observation, and municipal project environments., • Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs)., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office for communication, documentation, and reporting., • OSHA 10 certification., • Familiarity with at least one of the following systems: AASHTOWare, Field Book, Project Wise, Bluebeam, e-Builder, MetaField, or Appia., • Experience with sanitary sewer systems and related inspection tasks., • Clean driving record and ability to safely operate a work vehicle., • Strong report writing skills and attention to detail in documentation., • Ability to work 10–12 hour days, 5–6 days per week, including occasional Sundays., • Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and working drawings and apply them in the field., • Commitment to following safety procedures and public health requirements on construction sites. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dearborn, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $42.00/hr.
