Position Summary The Assistant General Manager assists in the daily management of a large K-12 food service operation by providing leadership, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining financial performance, supervising staff, and supporting district initiatives. This position works closely with the General Manager, district administration, and school leadership to ensure outstanding customer service and operational excellence. Essential Duties & Responsibilities • Assist in overseeing daily kitchen and cafeteria operations to ensure high-quality meal service., • Supervise, coach, and support food service employees while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable labor laws., • Oversee catering operations and special events throughout the district., • Ensure compliance with HACCP principles, USDA regulations, Michigan Department of Education requirements, and all federal, state, and local food safety regulations., • Monitor food quality, presentation, and customer satisfaction., • Manage food, labor, and supply costs while meeting established financial goals., • Create, review, and place food and supply orders., • Conduct and document inventories and implement waste reduction strategies., • Perform routine operational audits to ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, production, and quality standards., • Recruit, interview, train, develop, and evaluate employees., • Prepare operational, financial, inventory, and labor reports accurately and on time., • Assist with district marketing initiatives including student engagement activities, taste tests, student advisory councils, cooking demonstrations, promotional events, and nutrition education., • Build positive relationships with school administrators, district leadership, students, parents, and community stakeholders., • Translate operational instructions, employee training, and food safety information between English and Bengali as needed., • Support emergency staffing needs and provide operational coverage at district locations when necessary., • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. Required Qualifications • High School Diploma or GED required., • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Food Service Management, Nutrition, or a related field preferred., • Demonstrated proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing both English and Bengali., • Ability to effectively communicate with employees, school administrators, students, parents, and community members in both languages as an essential function of the position., • Ability to accurately translate operational instructions, employee training materials, and food safety procedures between English and Bengali., • Current ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire., • Current Michigan Allergen Awareness Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire., • Ability to obtain ServSafe® Instructor/Proctor status if required by the company., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word., • Experience using point-of-sale (POS) and food service management software., • Ability to quickly learn new software and technology platforms., • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills., • Strong written and verbal communication skills., • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities., • Willingness to work approximately 50 hours per week, with additional hours during peak operational periods., • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation and ability to travel between district locations., • Strong business acumen with an understanding of budgeting, labor management, inventory control, and financial reporting. Preferred Qualifications • Three or more years of supervisory or management experience in K-12 food service, hospitality, healthcare, or institutional dining., • Experience managing USDA Child Nutrition Programs (NSLP, SBP, CACFP, ASSP, or SFSP)., • Experience with menu planning, production records, inventory management, and procurement., • Knowledge of Michigan Department of Education Child Nutrition Program requirements., • Experience implementing employee training and professional development programs., • Experience with customer service initiatives and student engagement programs Because this position supervises a multilingual workforce and regularly communicates with Bengali-speaking employees, families, and community members, proficiency in both English and Bengali are an essential function of this position.
