Job Description Field Service Industrial Electrician Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Field Service Industrial Electrician to install, maintain, diagnose, and repair industrial material handling equipment, with a strong focus on conveyor systems. This role requires advanced electrical troubleshooting skills, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently at customer facilities. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with industrial electrical systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motor controls, sensors, variable frequency drives, and automated conveyor equipment. The Field Service Industrial Electrician will travel to job sites, identify equipment failures, complete repairs, and help minimize production downtime. Responsibilities • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain industrial conveyor systems and automated material handling equipment., • Perform electrical testing using multimeters, clamp meters, megohmmeters, and other diagnostic tools., • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, equipment manuals, and mechanical drawings., • Diagnose issues involving PLCs, control panels, relays, contactors, sensors, photo eyes, limit switches, encoders, and safety circuits., • Install, troubleshoot, and replace variable frequency drives (VFDs), motors, motor starters, and control components., • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on conveyor motors, gearboxes, belts, rollers, bearings, and related equipment., • Troubleshoot three-phase electrical systems, low-voltage controls, and industrial power distribution equipment., • Identify root causes of equipment failures and complete effective repairs that reduce repeat downtime., • Install electrical conduit, wiring, control panels, disconnects, junction boxes, and field devices., • Test repaired equipment to confirm safe and reliable operation., • Provide on-site technical support and communicate repair findings clearly to customers and internal teams., • Document service calls, parts used, corrective actions, equipment conditions, and recommended repairs., • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, electrical safety requirements, and applicable OSHA and NFPA 70E standards., • Maintain service tools, testing equipment, replacement parts, and company-issued equipment., • Travel to customer facilities and respond to scheduled service calls or emergency breakdowns as required., • Work safely in active industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution environments. Qualifications • High school diploma or GED required; completion of an electrical apprenticeship, technical school, or industrial maintenance program preferred., • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Industrial Electrician, Field Service Technician, Industrial Maintenance Electrician, or similar role., • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting material handling equipment and conveyor systems., • Strong knowledge of industrial controls, electrical circuits, motor controls, and automation components., • Experience diagnosing PLC-controlled equipment; ability to connect to PLC systems and interpret ladder logic is strongly preferred., • Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar industrial automation platforms is preferred., • Proficiency with VFDs, AC motors, DC motors, starters, relays, contactors, sensors, and control panels., • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and equipment documentation., • Working knowledge of 480V three-phase power, 120V circuits, and 24VDC control systems., • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with bearings, belts, rollers, gearboxes, shafts, and drive systems., • Ability to identify problems, determine root causes, and complete repairs with limited supervision., • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, arc-flash safety, and lockout/tagout procedures., • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record., • Ability to travel to customer locations and work flexible hours, including occasional nights, weekends, or overtime., • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform duties in industrial environments., • Strong communication, customer service, documentation, and time-management skills. Preferred Qualifications • Journeyman electrician license or equivalent industrial electrical certification., • Experience servicing conveyor systems in distribution centers, fulfillment centers, manufacturing plants, warehouses, or parcel-handling facilities., • Experience with CMMS software, HMI systems, industrial networks, or automated sortation equipment., • Familiarity with preventive maintenance, commissioning, equipment installation, and system startup., • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, or related safety certification.
