Job Description Maintenance Mechanic – All Shifts Available Job Description This 1st shift Maintenance Mechanic role supports a large bakery production facility in Santa Ana, CA. You will work from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., six days per week, ensuring that production, utilities, and facility equipment operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. The position focuses on preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and light electrical systems across a high-volume food manufacturing environment. Responsibilities • Plan and perform maintenance tasks in a safe, efficient, and organized manner to support continuous production operations., • Maintain and repair general production equipment, utilities systems, and facility infrastructure to ensure reliable performance., • Properly lubricate equipment, bearings, and gearboxes according to established schedules and procedures., • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and malfunctions to minimize production downtime., • Inspect belts, rollers, gears, sprockets, chains, and related components for wear and perform repairs or replacements before failure., • Rebuild pumps, valves, gearboxes, and other general mechanical equipment as needed., • Perform pipe fitting and welding work on various metals and materials to support equipment and facility needs., • Conduct maintenance and repairs on facility structures, including plumbing, doors, walls, floors, roofs, ceilings, and other general building components., • Maintain equipment parts, tools, and oil/grease barrels in a clean, orderly manner and ensure items are stored in the correct locations., • Support the training and onboarding of new mechanic employees by sharing knowledge of procedures and equipment., • Install new equipment and machinery as required, following specifications and safety standards., • Repair and fabricate guards, guides, rails, and other protective or guiding components for production equipment., • Provide maintenance support to other departments and areas of the plant when needed., • Identify, troubleshoot, and correct mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and small electrical issues on process and facility equipment., • Use manufacturer manuals, specifications, and technical documentation to keep equipment and machinery in proper working condition., • Work closely with the inventory function to ensure critical and spare parts are readily available and accurately documented., • Accurately record all parts taken from the stockroom to prevent discrepancies during cycle counts., • Follow the Preventative Maintenance Program and complete scheduled tasks on time, documenting all work performed., • Use basic computer applications and maintenance software to log work orders, maintenance activities, and equipment history. Essential Skills • Hands-on experience as a maintenance mechanic or maintenance technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment, ideally in the food industry or bakery operations., • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment, utilities, and facility systems., • Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and small electrical issues on processing and facility equipment., • Proficiency in using standard machine shop and hand tools, including drills, saws, taps, dies, drill presses, hydraulic presses, horizontal saws, vertical saws, and bench tools., • Ability to perform pipe fitting and welding on various metals and materials., • Knowledge of equipment and process conveying systems, including conveyor belts and related components., • Basic knowledge of analog and digital instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs and high-speed packaging equipment., • Familiarity with commercial baking ovens and bakery production equipment., • Ability to read and work from manufacturer owner’s manuals, specifications, and technical documentation., • Basic computer skills, including use of Outlook, Excel, Word, and preventative maintenance databases or software., • Ability to operate scissor lifts, boom lifts, and powered industrial vehicles (PIT) safely., • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision., • Attention to detail in documentation, inventory usage, and preventative maintenance records. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in a food manufacturing or bakery environment, with exposure to ovens, mixers, and conveyor systems., • Experience in electrical maintenance or electrical troubleshooting is a plus., • Experience working with PLC-controlled equipment and interpreting basic electrical schematics is beneficial., • Comfort working with high-speed packaging equipment and automated production lines., • Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)., • Ability to collaborate effectively with production, inventory, and other support teams., • Strong organizational skills to maintain tools, parts, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition., • Willingness to work six days per week and occasional overtime to support production demands. The temperature in the facility typically ranges from approximately 60°ree;F to 85°ree;F depending on the area, with warm zones near ovens and cooler zones elsewhere. The plant features a mix of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and light electrical systems, and you will regularly use machine shop tools, lifts, and powered industrial vehicles. The environment includes pleasant food-related aromas and can be fairly busy and fast-paced due to continuous production operations. Appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety around moving machinery, hot surfaces, and industrial tools.
