The SAP Development Manager – Sales & Distribution is responsible for leading the Barcelona‑based SAP SD development team supporting Werfen’s commercial, customer service, logistics, and order‑to‑cash business processes. This role combines people leadership, SAP functional expertise, and technical solution governance. The manager will oversee day‑to‑day team operations, delivery execution, resource planning, technical direction, and capability development while supporting Werfen’s long‑term SAP modernization and Clean Core journey. The successful candidate must be both functionally strong in SAP SD processes and technically credible in SAP development and architecture. The role requires the ability to guide solution design decisions, challenge unnecessary customisations, and promote scalable, upgrade‑friendly SAP solutions aligned with SAP standard capabilities. This is a true management role with accountability for team performance, prioritisation, execution discipline, employee development, and operational effectiveness. The ideal candidate has experience working in structured SAP environments with strong governance and standardisation practices and has participated in initiatives focused on reducing customisation complexity and modernising SAP solutions. Key Accountabilities • Lead and manage the SAP SD development team, including workload balancing, delivery planning, prioritisation, employee development, coaching, and performance management., • Drive effective execution and accountability across the team while ensuring high‑quality support and project delivery., • Partner with business stakeholders and IT business partners to deliver scalable and maintainable SAP SD solutions aligned with business priorities., • Provide functional and technical leadership for the overall SAP SD function, including order‑to‑cash, customer service, pricing, billing, logistics integration, outputs/forms, workflows, and related interfaces., • Support Werfen’s Clean Core strategy by promoting SAP standard functionality, upgrade‑friendly enhancements, and reduction of unnecessary custom developments; perform governance of daily team execution and direction., • Review existing custom solutions and identify opportunities for simplification, standardisation, modernisation, or redesign., • Establish and enforce SAP development standards, documentation expectations, support processes, and technical governance practices within the team., • Actively join and contribute to the related design of any other enterprise application that integrates with SAP and has impact on the SD function, ensuring proper design and system stability., • Support project delivery, operational support activities, issue resolution, and cross‑functional coordination with global IT teams., • Contribute to organisational capability building through mentoring, knowledge sharing, process improvement, and team development initiatives., • Provide backup leadership support across other SAP functional teams when required, particularly in coordination with Finance and cross‑functional initiatives. Networking / Key Relationships Collaborate with multiple teams within IT including but not limited to SAP Basis, IT business partners, Security, Integration, Infrastructure, SQA to ensure stable and scalable enterprise solutions. Strong stakeholder management skills and conflict management skills are necessary for this role. Strong collaboration with different enterprise application teams to ensure successful delivery of projects, including Manhattan, Salesforce, ServiceNow, etc. Capability to collaborate, contact and work with third‑party companies to define solutions, viable paths for different projects or critical issues. Collaborate with business partners to manage stakeholders, project initiations, prioritisations, etc. Strong team management skills and technical & functional leadership. Strong capability to support and execute the initiatives and directions from senior leadership. Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline., • Minimum 10 years of SAP experience with strong expertise in SAP SD / order‑to‑cash processes., • Minimum 5 years leading or managing SAP development teams., • Strong functional knowledge of SAP SD business processes including sales orders, pricing, billing, shipping, customer master, outputs, and integrations., • Strong technical SAP knowledge including the most modernised SAP technology such as SAP cloud development, BTP, RAP, Fiori, etc. Classic development skills are basic, e.g., ABAP development, enhancements, interfaces, APIs, forms, workflows, and SAP architecture concepts., • Experience working in SAP environments with structured governance and standardisation practices., • Experience participating in SAP transformation, standardisation, or Clean Core initiatives (preferred)., • Experience evaluating and reducing legacy customisations (preferred)., • Experience in SAP S/4HANA environments (required)., • Experience in regulated manufacturing, medical device, healthcare, or similar industries (preferred)., • Experience collaborating with finance processes or supporting cross‑functional SAP initiatives (a plus)., • Previous consulting experience or experience in highly standardised SAP organisations (a plus).
