Job Description Job Title: Function Tester / Testing Technician Job Description The Function Tester / Testing Technician applies electrical theory and related knowledge to test control panels and enclosures, ensuring all wiring matches schematics and functions correctly. This role focuses on quality control, electrical function testing, and troubleshooting to identify and resolve wiring errors while implementing established quality assurance policies. Responsibilities • Apply electrical theory and related knowledge to test control panels and enclosures electrically., • Verify that all wiring matches schematics and electrical drawings, identifying any discrepancies., • Perform function testing to measure the performance of wiring and confirm that panel wiring is completed correctly., • Utilize blueprints for quality control and inspection of panels, ensuring compliance with specifications., • Implement quality assurance policies while performing inspections and function testing., • Make detailed notes on blueprints and bills of materials when work is not completed correctly, clearly indicating what needs to be redone., • Troubleshoot wiring, electrical components, and control panels to identify and resolve errors., • Use hand tools and power tools safely to assist with electrical assembly and testing tasks as needed., • Operate a hydraulic pallet jack to move panels and materials safely within the facility., • Read and interpret tape measurements, including fractional and decimal dimensions, and apply them accurately in daily tasks., • Review and interpret schematics, blueprints, and specialized drawings, with training provided for more complex documentation., • Follow established quality control and quality inspection procedures to ensure consistent product standards., • Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and corrective actions taken., • Work independently in a production-focused environment, staying on task to meet performance expectations., • Adhere to all safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment and safe operation of tools and equipment., • Remain aware of and work effectively in a manufacturing environment with exposure to loud noises, drilling, cutting, and other typical production sounds. Essential Skills • At least 1 year of quality control and function testing experience., • 1 to 4 years of previous wiring experience preferred., • At least 6 months of experience operating a hydraulic pallet jack., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics., • Ability to perform function testing on electrical panels and wiring., • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for electrical and wiring issues., • Ability to easily read a tape measure and understand fractional and decimal dimensions., • Experience with quality control and quality inspection processes., • Hands-on experience with electrical, electronics, or related fields such as HVAC, mechanical, or electrician work., • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 40 lbs as needed for the role., • Comfort working in an environment with loud noises, drilling, cutting, banging, and typical manufacturing sounds., • Proficiency using hand tools and power tools in an electrical assembly or testing environment., • Ability to work independently in a production and performance-based setting, maintaining focus and productivity. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with electrical assembly and panel wiring., • Experience in electronics, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, or related technical disciplines., • Familiarity with quality assurance policies and documentation practices., • Ability to interpret specialized drawings, with training provided as needed., • Comfort working in a structured environment with defined attendance and performance expectations., • Strong attention to detail when reviewing schematics, blueprints, and bills of materials., • Effective communication skills to document findings and collaborate with other team members in the quality assurance department. Work Environment The role follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a 60-minute unpaid lunch break. The facility is very clean, bright, and climate controlled, providing a comfortable and modern workplace. Each person has their own work space and works largely independently, while still being close enough to collaborate with others as needed. The environment is highly production and performance based, so the ability to stay focused and self-directed is important. Approximately 200 people work in the facility, with about 16 team members in the quality assurance department, creating a mid-sized, collaborative team setting. The manufacturing environment includes exposure to typical production sounds such as loud noises, drilling, cutting, and banging. The dress code allows jeans and t-shirts with closed-toe shoes. Required personal protective equipment includes safety glasses, which are provided, and closed-toe footwear. The attendance policy includes a 5-minute clock-in cushion; clocking in outside of this window counts as an incident, with up to five incidents allowed within a 60-day period before termination may occur. Incidents may be excused if a doctor’s note is provided within two days, reinforcing a structured and consistent attendance standard Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
