For more than 50 years, we've built our reputation by delivering premium-quality transformers with the shortest lead times in the industry. \n Today, we employ more than 6,000 people worldwide and continue to invest aggressively in manufacturing, engineering, and field service capabilities to support the rapidly growing electric grid, renewable energy, industrial manufacturing, and AI-driven data center markets. \n As a privately held, debt-free company, we move quickly, invest boldly, and empower our employees to make an immediate impact. \n \n Position Summary \n The Lead Field Service Technician serves as the on-site technical leader responsible for the installation, assembly, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of power and distribution transformers at customer locations throughout North America. \n This home-based position is ideal for experienced transformer professionals located in Virginia, Iowa, or Texas who are willing to travel extensively to support utility, industrial, renewable energy, and data center customers. The Lead Field Service Technician provides technical leadership in the field, mentors other technicians, and serves as the primary customer contact during project execution. \n \n Key Responsibilities \n Field Service Leadership \n\n • Lead field service crews during transformer installation, commissioning, maintenance, repair, and emergency service projects.\n, • Coordinate daily field activities while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.\n, • Mentor and develop Field Service Technicians, providing technical guidance and leadership on-site.\n, • Coordinate subcontractors and customer personnel as required.\n\n Installation & Commissioning \n\n • Lead transformer assembly, installation, commissioning, and startup activities.\n, • Supervise oil processing, vacuum filling, degassing, filtration, and dry-out procedures.\n, • Install and inspect bushings, radiators, cooling systems, tap changers, control cabinets, and accessories.\n, • Support transformer energization and commissioning activities.\n\n Electrical Testing & Diagnostics \n Perform and oversee field testing including: \n\n • Transformer Turns Ratio (TTR)\n, • Winding Resistance\n, • Insulation Resistance (Megger)\n, • Power Factor / Dissipation Factor\n, • Excitation Current\n, • SFRA (preferred)\n, • Functional control testing\n, • DGA sample collection\n, • Diagnostic troubleshooting\n\n Interpret test results and recommend corrective actions. \n Troubleshooting & Repairs \n\n • Diagnose mechanical and electrical transformer issues.\n, • Perform field repairs involving tap changers, bushings, cooling systems, controls, wiring, and accessories.\n, • Coordinate with Engineering to resolve complex technical challenges.\n, • Minimize customer downtime through effective troubleshooting and repair.\n\n Customer Support \n\n • Serve as Virginia Transformer's primary technical representative during field assignments.\n, • Maintain strong customer relationships through professional communication and technical expertise.\n, • Provide project updates, technical recommendations, and final service reports.\n, • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and customer witness testing when required.\n\n Safety & Compliance \n\n • Lead daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and safety meetings.\n, • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, utility safety standards, and company policies.\n, • Promote a strong safety culture across all field activities.\n, • Maintain accurate documentation and service records.\n\n Continuous Improvement \n\n • Recommend improvements to field service procedures and work practices.\n, • Assist in developing standard operating procedures and training materials.\n, • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.\n\n \n Qualifications \n\n • High School Diploma or GED required.\n, • Technical degree or military electrical training preferred.\n, • Minimum of 7 years of experience installing, commissioning, maintaining, or servicing power and distribution transformers.\n, • Proven experience leading field crews on customer job sites.\n, • Strong knowledge of transformer construction, operation, and maintenance.\n, • Experience working in utility substations, industrial facilities, or electrical infrastructure environments.\n\n Hands-on experience with: \n\n • Transformer assembly and installation\n, • Oil processing and vacuum filling\n, • Transformer testing and diagnostics\n, • Commissioning and energization\n, • Transformer troubleshooting and repair\n, • Outage planning and execution\n, • Utility or industrial electrical systems\n\n \n Preferred Qualifications \n\n • NETA Certification\n, • OSHA 30 Certification\n, • First Aid / CPR Certification\n, • Experience using Omicron, Doble, Megger, Vanguard, or similar electrical testing equipment\n, • CDL or ability to obtain one\n, • Experience supporting utilities, EPC contractors, renewable energy, hyperscale data centers, or industrial customers\n\n \n Knowledge & Skills \n\n • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills\n, • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and transformer drawings\n, • Excellent leadership and team coordination abilities\n, • Strong customer service and communication skills\n, • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision\n, • Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills\n\n \n Travel Requirements \n\n • Home-based position with preferred residence in Virginia, Iowa, or Texas.\n, • Extensive travel (75–100%) throughout North America is required.\n, • Ability to respond to emergency service calls, planned outages, and customer schedules.\n, • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and extended outage assignments as needed.\n\n \n Physical Requirements \n\n • Lift and carry up to 75 pounds.\n, • Climb ladders and work at heights.\n, • Work in substations, industrial facilities, and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.\n, • Stand, kneel,
