Job Description Shipping & Receiving Logistics Specialist 1st Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Pay: $24.00/hour • 2 to 3 years of on-site lab or logistics work experience, including shipping and receiving responsibilities., • Receives all incoming goods, checks for accuracy against packing slips, and prepares for delivery, • Enters all relevant information into electronic receiving system, • Maintains updated receiving files and follows up with the Purchasing Department regarding receiving problems, as directed by supervisor, • Delivers and picks up mail on a regular schedule as assigned, • Assists with the packaging of outbound freight for transfer to carriers, couriers and brokers, • Maintains a clean and safe work environment, • Performs other duties as assigned, • Forklift license and experience preferred, • Able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs The Logistics Specialist supports shipping and receiving operations by performing both physical and administrative tasks related to inbound and outbound materials. This role manages the receipt, verification, logging, and distribution of goods, acts as an internal courier for mail and packages, and prepares outbound freight for carriers and couriers. The position is based in an on-site laboratory and logistics environment and involves regular interaction with scientific staff and other team members to ensure accurate, timely, and safe movement of materials. Responsibilities • Receive all incoming goods and verify accuracy against packing slips before preparing items for delivery., • Enter all relevant receiving information into the electronic tracking and receiving systems in a timely and accurate manner., • Maintain up-to-date receiving files and follow up with the Purchasing Department regarding any receiving problems, as directed by the supervisor., • Deliver and pick up interoffice mail and packages on a regular schedule, acting as a company courier as needed., • Assist with packaging outbound freight for transfer to carriers, couriers, and brokers, ensuring proper documentation and labeling., • Work closely with laboratories to distribute, ship, and receive materials such as chemicals, laboratory equipment, glassware, and consumables., • Handle chemicals and hazardous materials in accordance with established safety protocols and internal and external shipping/receiving guidelines., • Log packing slips and track packages, including updating relevant stakeholders on delivery dates, changes, or issues., • Unload equipment deliveries and promptly notify the equipment team via collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams., • Collaborate with another logistics consultant and broader team members to provide coverage and maintain a team-focused work environment., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with safety and standard operating procedures., • Operate or assist with forklift activities, with training and certification provided as needed., • Lift and move materials weighing up to a minimum of 40 pounds as part of daily duties., • Provide courteous, responsive service to internal customers, including scientists and other staff, when delivering materials and resolving logistics issues., • Perform other related logistics and support duties as assigned. Essential Skills • High school diploma or equivalent., • 2 to 3 years of on-site lab or logistics work experience, including shipping and receiving responsibilities., • Experience working with chemicals, hazardous materials, or in a pharmaceutical or similar environment., • Knowledge of safety protocols for receiving and shipping chemicals and hazardous materials., • Basic computer skills sufficient to operate tracking applications and other related systems., • Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel with basic fluency., • Understanding of relevant internal and external shipping and receiving guidelines., • Ability to follow standard operating procedures in a laboratory and logistics setting., • Valid driver’s license., • Willingness to drive and be trained on forklift operation., • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds safely and repeatedly., • Sound verbal and written communication skills., • Customer service mindset with the ability to interact professionally with scientists and other internal stakeholders. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Forklift experience; training and certification will be provided if not already certified., • Experience in pharmaceutical logistics or handling hazardous materials is a strong plus., • Familiarity with laboratory environments, including handling lab equipment, glassware, and consumables., • Comfort working with standard operating procedures and safety documentation., • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and provide coverage for colleagues as needed., • Strong attention to detail in logging, tracking, and documenting shipments and deliveries., • Reliability in adhering to scheduled mail runs and delivery commitments., • Openness to long-term engagement, with potential for renewal opportunities beyond the initial term. Work Environment This role is based fully on-site in a laboratory and logistics environment, working closely with scientific staff and other operations personnel. The position involves regular exposure to chemicals, hazardous materials, and laboratory equipment, and requires comfort working around animals. Work hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., following a consistent daytime schedule. The environment includes shipping and receiving areas, storage spaces, and laboratory support zones where safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and proper personal protective equipment are strictly observed. Forklifts and other material-handling equipment may be used, with training and certification provided. The culture emphasizes teamwork, safety, reliability, and responsive internal customer service.
