Job Description Job Title: Copper Helper Job Description The Copper Helper role is an entry-level apprentice position supporting experienced copper fitters on commercial and light industrial construction job sites. You will learn the trade hands-on by gathering materials, using hand and power tools to prepare and fit copper piping, and assisting with the installation of HVAC, refrigeration, chilled water, domestic water, and medical gas systems. This role requires consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety vest, hard hat, and safety glasses, and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and organized work environment. Responsibilities • Assist in the installation of copper piping for HVAC, refrigeration, chilled water, domestic water, and medical gas systems on commercial and light industrial projects., • Measure, cut, ream, clean, and prepare copper pipe for installation according to project specifications., • Support brazing and soldering operations by preparing materials, tools, and work areas., • Carry, stage, and organize materials, tools, fittings, and equipment throughout the project to ensure efficient workflow., • Assist with pipe layout, including hangers, supports, and equipment installation under the guidance of experienced copper fitters., • Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively, including pipe cutters, reamers, drills, and grinders., • Load and unload materials, equipment, and supplies as needed for project progress., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment on all job sites., • Follow all company and jobsite safety requirements, including OSHA regulations and proper PPE usage., • Work from ladders, lifts, and scaffolding as required to access installation areas., • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding project needs, material requirements, and task status., • Perform other duties as assigned to support timely and successful project completion. Essential Skills • At least 6 months of experience working with copper and HVAC systems., • Previous experience working with copper pipe in a construction or trade environment., • Ability to perform basic soldering and brazing tasks and support more advanced operations., • Experience using trade-related tools such as pipe cutters, reamers, drills, grinders, and other hand and power tools., • Understanding of basic construction practices and procedures on commercial job sites., • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day., • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods during the workday., • Comfort working at heights and in various weather conditions on outdoor and indoor job sites., • Ability to wear required PPE, including safety vest, hard hat, and safety glasses, at all times., • Commitment to following OSHA regulations and all jobsite safety requirements., • Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with supervisors and team members. Additional Skills & Qualifications • OSHA 10 Certification., • Experience on commercial construction projects., • Experience in general construction, particularly in commercial or light industrial environments., • Interest in learning and advancing within the copper fitting and HVAC trade., • Reliability and strong work ethic in fast-paced, project-driven settings. Work Environment Work takes place on commercial and light industrial construction job sites, where you will support copper piping installation for HVAC and related systems. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carrollton, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
