Marketing & Communications Manager – Nonprofit \n \n Location: Sonoma County, CA \n \n Schedule: Full-Time | On-Site \n \n Compensation: $100,000–$120,000 annually \n \n A well-established, mission-driven nonprofit organization in Sonoma County is seeking an experienced Marketing & Communications Manager to lead its day-to-day communications and storytelling efforts. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring experience working in the nonprofit sector and understand how strategic communications support fundraising, donor engagement, stewardship, and community impact. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong writer and storyteller who can translate an organization’s mission and priorities into compelling content for donors, families, community partners, and other key audiences. The Marketing & Communications Manager will oversee communications across email, websites, social media, print, public relations, and donor-facing campaigns while partnering closely with the development and fundraising team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is highly organized, creative, collaborative, and comfortable managing multiple communications channels in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. \n \n Key Responsibilities \n Marketing & Communications Strategy \n\n • Manage the organization’s day-to-day communications across email, websites, social media, print, and earned media.\n, • Develop compelling, mission-aligned content for a variety of audiences, including donors, community partners, families, and other stakeholders.\n, • Ensure consistent messaging, voice, and branding across all communications channels.\n, • Use engagement and performance data to evaluate and continuously improve communications strategies.\n\n Donor & Fundraising Communications \n\n • Partner closely with the development and fundraising team to create compelling donor-facing communications.\n, • Draft and produce fundraising appeals, donor stewardship materials, campaign communications, invitations, and other development collateral.\n, • Help translate organizational programs, outcomes, and impact into stories that inspire engagement and financial support.\n, • Ensure consistent and compelling messaging across donor and development touchpoints.\n, • Support annual reports and other major organizational publications in collaboration with development and leadership.\n\n Email Marketing \n\n • Manage the organization’s email marketing program, including newsletters, donor communications, fundraising campaigns, and other targeted communications.\n, • Build, schedule, and distribute email campaigns using an email marketing platform.\n, • Maintain and segment email lists to ensure appropriate targeting and messaging.\n, • Track open rates, click-through rates, and other engagement metrics to improve campaign performance.\n\n Website Management \n\n • Maintain and update multiple organizational websites, ensuring content is accurate, current, engaging, and consistent with brand standards.\n, • Coordinate with outside website vendors on larger updates, redesigns, and technical needs.\n, • Update internal and stakeholder portals with relevant organizational news and information.\n, • Monitor website analytics and use performance data to inform content and structural improvements.\n\n Social Media \n\n • Manage the organization’s social media presence across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and other relevant platforms.\n, • Develop and execute a social media content strategy that supports organizational, fundraising, and community engagement priorities.\n, • Create platform-specific content designed to increase visibility and engagement.\n, • Coordinate and oversee social media contractors or freelancers as needed.\n, • Monitor and report on social media performance and adjust strategies based on results.\n\n Public Relations & Earned Media \n\n • Serve as the day-to-day liaison with outside public relations partners.\n, • Coordinate press opportunities, interview requests, media outreach, and research projects.\n, • Draft and coordinate press releases and other media materials in partnership with leadership and external PR resources.\n, • Track earned media coverage and report on visibility and PR outcomes.\n, • Support crisis communications efforts as needed in coordination with organizational leadership.\n\n Print & Digital Collateral \n\n • Create and manage print and digital materials, including brochures, flyers, signage, fundraising materials, and donor-facing collateral.\n, • Coordinate with designers, vendors, and contractors on larger creative projects.\n, • Handle smaller graphic design projects using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar tools.\n, • Oversee the development and production of major organizational publications, including the annual report.\n\n Event Marketing Support \n\n • Provide marketing and communications support for signature fundraising and community events.\n, • Develop event-related email campaigns, social media content, signage, invitations, and other collateral.\n, • Partner with event staff to ensure consistent messaging and branding.\n, • Capture photos, stories, and content at programs, events, and donor presentations for use across communications channels.\n, • This role supports events from a marketing and communications perspective and does not own event logistics or day-of event execution.\n\n \n Qualifications \n\n • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Digital Media, or a related field.\n, • 3–5+ years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, development communications, or a related field.\n, • Experience working within a nonprofit, foundation, educational, social services, or other mission-driven organization strongly preferred.\n, • Experience supporting fundraising, donor communications, development campaigns, or donor engagement initiatives highly desired.\n, • Experience managing organizational social media accounts and developing platform-specific content strategies.\n, • Excellent writing and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt messaging for donors, community partners, and diverse audiences.\n, • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar design tools.\n, • Experience with website content management systems such as WordPress or similar platforms.\n, • Experience with email marketing platforms.\n, • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.\n\n \n Candidates with a strong combination of nonprofit experience, fundraising or development communications expertise, and exceptional writing and storytelling skills are strongly
