Job Description Job Title: Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician Job Description The Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide range of production and paint process equipment in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment. This role focuses on electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, ensuring reliable operation of paint robotics, hydraulic presses, conveyor systems, welders, rack systems, and related facilities equipment. The technician performs both corrective and preventive maintenance, supports automation activities, and helps ensure all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards. Responsibilities • Troubleshoot and repair all production machinery, including paint process machines, paint robotics, hydraulic presses, conveyor systems, welders, rack systems, and facility equipment., • Perform electrical troubleshooting and repair on single-phase and three-phase equipment up to the maximum plant voltage, including injection and paint application equipment., • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on paint application and support equipment such as regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTO), robots, chillers, air houses, burners, and conveyors., • Conduct preventive maintenance checks on paint equipment and other production machinery to reduce downtime and extend equipment life., • Weld and fabricate modifications to equipment and structures as needed to support production and maintenance requirements., • Install and maintain a wide variety of complex mechanical, electrical, electronic transmission, testing, and control equipment used in the plant., • Design and install supports, conduit, wiring, and piping for new or modified equipment, ensuring safe and efficient layouts., • Build and install large single-phase and three-phase equipment from wiring diagrams, schematics, and sketches., • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair breakdowns on all equipment in the paint department, including paint lines and associated systems., • Keep all equipment clean, dust-free, and properly lubricated to maintain optimal performance and reliability., • Apply 5S standards to paint line equipment and maintenance work areas to maintain organization, cleanliness, and safety., • Assist Automation Technicians with repairs and projects, providing multi-craft support as needed., • Assist maintenance technicians in other groups when required to support overall plant maintenance needs., • Operate a variety of power tools, including grinders, drill presses, and reciprocating saws, safely and effectively for maintenance and fabrication tasks., • Perform rigging and moving of machinery, ensuring accurate installation and alignment of equipment., • Stay current with and follow applicable codes and guidelines such as NFPA, NEC, and OSHA when performing electrical and mechanical work., • Attend required classes and training sessions to maintain and enhance technical skills and knowledge related to plant equipment and safety., • Support safe plant operations by identifying issues, recommending improvements, and following established procedures and standards. Essential Skills • Proven experience as a multi-craft or industrial maintenance technician in a manufacturing environment., • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including work on single-phase and three-phase systems up to the maximum plant voltage., • Hands-on experience with mechanical troubleshooting and repair of production and paint process equipment., • Ability to read, interpret, and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical sketches., • Proficiency in preventive maintenance practices for paint equipment and other production machinery., • Experience with robotics and paint robotics, including troubleshooting and repair., • Demonstrated skills in working with conveyor systems, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic systems., • Industrial maintenance experience involving PLC troubleshooting and electrical maintenance., • Capability to weld and fabricate equipment modifications safely and accurately., • Ability to diagnose and resolve issues on paint application and support equipment such as RTOs, robots, chillers, air houses, burners, and conveyors., • Competence in designing and installing supports, conduit, wiring, and piping for equipment installations and modifications., • Experience operating power tools such as grinders, drill presses, and reciprocating saws in a maintenance setting., • Knowledge of and adherence to NFPA, NEC, OSHA, and other applicable codes and guidelines., • Strong troubleshooting mindset, with the ability to diagnose and solve complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic problems. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in a paint line or paint department environment, including paint application and support systems., • Experience in climate-controlled manufacturing operations., • Familiarity with 5S standards and continuous improvement practices in maintenance areas., • Comfort working closely with Automation Technicians and cross-functional maintenance teams., • Experience with rigging, moving, and accurately installing industrial machinery., • Willingness to attend ongoing training classes and technical development sessions as required., • Ability to adapt to different shifts and training schedules, including 12-hour rotating shifts during training. Work Environment This position is based in a climate-controlled manufacturing paint environment with extensive use of paint process equipment, robotics, hydraulic presses, conveyor systems, welders, and other industrial machinery. You will work primarily on a second shift schedule from approximately 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will also help cover a continental 12-hour shift when needed, such as during paid time off coverage for other team members. Initial training takes place on a rotating 12-hour schedule, typically Monday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and then Saturday, Sunday, Monday from about 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., for an estimated duration of around six months depending on learning progress. The role requires regular use of power tools such as grinders, drill presses, and reciprocating saws, as well as involvement in rigging and moving machinery. You work around electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and follow NFPA, NEC, OSHA, and other safety standards. Appropriate industrial work attire and personal protective equipment are required to safely perform duties in this production and paint environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chattanooga, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.11 - $40.11/hr.
