Job Description Job Title: General Production Worker / Material Handler Job Description This role supports a plastic pipe extrusion facility by handling finished product as it comes off the extrusion line. You will remove pipe from the extrusion machines, stack it safely on racks, prepare it for transport and weighing, and perform visual inspections to identify defects. The position offers a clear progression path through multiple material handler levels and the opportunity to advance into an extrusion operator role, with potential forklift certification provided on the job. Responsibilities • Remove plastic pipe from extrusion machines and place or stack it safely onto racks., • Monitor rack capacity and band full racks of pipe to secure product for transport., • Prepare banded racks for forklift transport to scales for weighing., • Perform visual inspections of pipe to identify defects or quality issues., • Sort and load defective pipe onto scrap pallets for proper handling and disposal., • Follow material handling procedures to ensure safe and efficient movement of products., • Support extrusion operations by keeping work areas organized and clear of obstructions., • Learn and follow standard operating procedures related to extrusion and material handling., • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to maintain production flow and meet output goals., • Maintain a clean and orderly work area in a dusty, non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment., • Adhere to all safety guidelines, including proper use of equipment and personal protective gear., • Pursue forklift certification when offered and operate forklifts safely once trained and certified., • Demonstrate strong performance and reliability to qualify for promotion opportunities, including advancement to higher-level material handler roles or extrusion operator positions. Essential Skills • Ability to perform general labor tasks in a manufacturing environment., • Experience or strong aptitude in material handling, including lifting, stacking, and organizing products., • Willingness to work in a dusty, non-climate-controlled environment for extended shifts., • Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures accurately and consistently., • Capability to perform visual quality checks and identify defective products., • Reliability in working 12-hour shifts on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule, including every other weekend., • Physical ability to handle repetitive lifting, bending, and standing throughout the shift., • Willingness to obtain forklift certification and operate forklifts safely once trained., • Basic understanding of manufacturing or distribution processes for candidates at Material Handler 2 level, typically with 2 to 5 years of experience., • Prior experience in an extrusion or injection mold environment for candidates at Material Handler 3 level. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Entry-level candidates with no prior experience may qualify for the Material Handler 1 level., • Previous forklift operating experience is an advantage but not required, as certification opportunities are available., • Familiarity with extrusion processes is beneficial and may support placement at a higher material handler level., • Experience working in manufacturing or distribution environments is preferred for advanced levels., • extrusion or injection molding environments is highly valued for material handler roles., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety in a production setting., • Willingness to learn new skills and progress into an extrusion operator role over time. Work Environment This role is based in a large manufacturing facility that produces plastic piping. The environment is dusty and not climate controlled, so temperatures may vary with the seasons. Shifts run from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule. In this schedule, you work two days, have two days off, then work three days, alternating every other weekend. For example, in week one you work Monday and Tuesday, are off Wednesday and Thursday, and work Friday and Saturday; in week two you are off Monday and Tuesday, work Wednesday and Thursday, and are off Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Over the course of a year, this pattern results in being off approximately 5 to 6 months in total. You will work around extrusion machines, racks of pipe, scales for weighing product, and forklifts used to move materials.
