Job Description Job Title: Facilities Maintenance / Construction Helper Job Description This role offers a hands-on opportunity for a versatile, "jack of all trades" helper to support a lead carpenter and renovation crew in a busy facilities and construction environment. You will work primarily on trailers returning from construction sites, performing repairs and light renovations so they are ready for the next project. The position is ideal for someone with strong handyman skills, a solid understanding of hand and power tools, and 1–3 years of construction or skilled trades experience who wants to grow their knowledge across carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and general maintenance. Responsibilities • Assist the lead carpenter and renovation crew with daily construction and maintenance tasks on trailers returning from job sites., • Perform basic remodeling and repair work on trailers to prepare them for deployment to new job sites and clients., • Gather and organize tools and materials for the carpenter, ensuring the correct hand and power tools are available when requested., • Carry out basic drywall installation and repairs, including patching and finishing as needed., • Support light electrical tasks under direction, such as minor repairs and maintenance work., • Perform basic PVC plumbing maintenance, including simple repairs and replacements., • Assist with carpentry tasks such as framing, trim work, and general structural repairs., • Support painting and finishing work, including surface preparation and application of coatings., • Help with flooring-related tasks as needed, including basic installation or repair., • Follow all safety regulations and procedures, including consistent use of safety glasses and required protective equipment., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area within the facility., • Collaborate closely with the lead carpenter and project leadership to complete projects on time and to quality standards., • Work overtime as required to meet workload demands, including extended weekday hours and some Saturday work. Essential Skills • Experience using a wide range of hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and saws., • Experience using power tools including drills and cordless drills., • Handyman skills across carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, and facilities maintenance., • Minimum of 2 years of experience in facilities maintenance, subcontractor work, or general contracting, with exposure to carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and painting., • 1–3 years of skilled trade or construction experience., • Ability to identify and correctly use various hand and power tools when requested by the carpenter., • Practical experience in basic drywall work, including installation and repair., • Basic knowledge of PVC plumbing maintenance and light electrical work., • Ability to follow safety rules and consistently wear safety glasses and other required protective equipment., • Willingness to work overtime, including extended weekday hours and some Saturdays. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in general construction labor, including demolition, preparation, and cleanup., • experience in flooring work, including basic installation or repair., • Previous experience in a facilities maintenance environment or with trailer renovation is beneficial., • Comfort working as part of a renovation crew and taking direction from a lead carpenter and project leadership., • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn new aspects of the skilled trades., • Ability to work indoors in a busy facility environment while managing multiple tasks. Work Environment This position is based indoors at a facility in Medford, working primarily on trailers that return from construction sites. The schedule is a first-shift role, typically 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime required; you should be willing to stay until approximately 5:00–5:30 p.m. on weekdays and work an additional 3–5 hours of overtime on Saturdays as needed. The environment is safety-focused, and safety glasses must be worn at all times while working, along with adherence to all safety regulations and procedures. You will work closely with a lead carpenter and project leadership in a collaborative, supportive atmosphere. The team maintains a friendly, down-to-earth culture and makes new and temporary employees feel welcome, providing items such as jackets, safety glasses, and gloves to help you work comfortably and safely. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bay Shore, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
