Job Description Job Title: Avionics Technician Job Description This role focuses on inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex avionics systems on commercial aircraft in a certified Part 145 repair station environment. You will work with a wide range of systems including radar, radio, navigation, autopilot, and compass systems, ensuring they meet all applicable FAA regulations and internal maintenance standards. The position requires strong technical skills, meticulous documentation, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in an active aircraft maintenance hangar and flightline setting. Responsibilities • Research and interpret technical data, maintenance manuals, schematics, blueprints, and other technical documents to plan and perform avionics maintenance and repair activities., • Inspect avionics components and systems for defects, including loose connections, frayed wiring, and improper assembly or installation, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards., • Test avionics equipment under simulated and actual operating conditions to determine performance, functionality, and airworthiness using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital meters and counters, and circuit analyzers., • Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in avionics systems including radar, radio, navigation, autopilot, and compass systems installed on commercial aircraft., • Adjust, repair, or replace defective components and wiring based on analysis of test results, following all applicable maintenance manuals, technical data, and regulatory requirements., • Calibrate installed or repaired avionics equipment to prescribed specifications to ensure accurate and reliable operation., • Record all accomplished maintenance actions concisely, accurately, and legibly on repair station and/or customer-provided approved documents., • Perform avionics installations, modifications, and upgrades on commercial aircraft, ensuring proper routing, securing, and termination of wiring and components., • Use aircraft ground servicing equipment and hand tools safely and effectively while performing avionics maintenance and related tasks., • Follow all safety procedures and regulatory requirements, including those related to FAA compliance, hazardous materials, and use of personal protective equipment., • Collaborate with other technicians and maintenance personnel to support overall aircraft maintenance schedules and priorities., • Work overtime as needed to support operational requirements and maintenance timelines. Essential Skills • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an avionics technician working on aircraft avionics systems., • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting, repair, and installation of avionics systems including radar, radio, navigation, autopilot, and compass systems., • Strong avionics troubleshooting skills with the ability to interpret test results and identify root causes of system malfunctions., • Proficiency in using avionics test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital meters and counters, and circuit analyzers., • Practical electrical experience related to aircraft and avionics systems, including wiring, connectors, and harnesses., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, maintenance manuals, and other technical documentation., • Experience working on commercial aircraft airframes in a maintenance or repair station environment., • Ability to accurately document maintenance actions on approved forms and records in accordance with regulatory and company requirements., • Capability to meet physical demands including extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking, frequent bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, and occasional crawling, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds unassisted. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Comfort working with aircraft ground servicing equipment such as tugs, tractors, hi-lifts, trucks, servicing carts, and test equipment., • Ability to safely operate hand tools, rivet guns, and drills in an aviation maintenance setting., • Preparedness to provide and use a basic personal tool set appropriate for avionics work (tool list available on request)., • Willingness to work overtime on an as-needed basis to support maintenance schedules. Work Environment This role is based in an aircraft maintenance hangar and on the flightline, working primarily on commercial aircraft. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with overtime available on an as-needed basis. You will work in an active maintenance environment that may involve high-intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, working at heights, and operating around moving machinery and aircraft. Duties may include entering aircraft fuel tanks and other confined spaces as required by maintenance tasks. You will frequently sit, stand, and walk for extended periods and regularly bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, balance, and reach above shoulder level, with occasional crawling, climbing, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds unassisted. The role requires regular use of aircraft ground servicing equipment such as tugs, tractors, hi-lifts, trucks, servicing carts, and a variety of test equipment, along with hand tools, rivet guns, and drills. Personal protective equipment, including goggles, safety glasses, face shields, ear protection, aprons, gloves, and safety gear, is required and provided in accordance with safety policies. A per diem allowance is available for eligible days worked, and the position follows a contract-to-hire structure with direct hire typically considered after several months based on performance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $39.12 - $39.12/hr.
