Job Description Job Title: Structural Welder $22-25/HR – 1st Shift Job Description This role focuses on welding and fabricating structural steel components for a variety of construction and industrial projects on a 1st shift schedule. You will use MIG and stick welding techniques with 3/32 and 0.45 wire to produce high-quality structural assemblies while closely following blueprints and safety standards. The position requires strong technical welding skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and construction teams in a busy production environment. Responsibilities • Weld and fabricate structural steel components, including beams, columns, and girders, using 3/32 and 0.45 wire., • Perform MIG and stick welding on structural steel in accordance with project specifications and codes., • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, schematics, and welding symbols to ensure accurate layout and assembly., • Set up, operate, and adjust welding equipment such as MIG, TIG, and stick welders to achieve proper weld quality., • Cut and shape metal using tools such as plasma cutters, oxy-acetylene torches, grinders, and other common welding shop tools., • Inspect completed welds for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications and standards., • Collaborate with engineers, fabricators, and construction teams to meet project timelines and quality goals., • Maintain, clean, and troubleshoot welding equipment to ensure safe and optimal performance., • Follow all safety protocols, shop procedures, and industry standards to prevent accidents and injuries., • Perform post-welding activities such as grinding, cleaning, and polishing to prepare components for further processing or installation., • Use power tools and other shop equipment safely and efficiently as part of daily fabrication tasks. Essential Skills • Proven experience in structural welding and metal fabrication., • Proficiency in MIG and stick welding techniques using 3/32 and 0.45 wire., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, schematics, and welding symbols., • Experience with structural steel welding and MIG structural welding in a production or construction environment., • Ability to use oxy-acetylene torches for cutting and heating operations., • Skill in using power tools and common welding shop tools, including grinders and related equipment., • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate fit-up, weld quality, and compliance with specifications., • Effective problem-solving skills to address fit, alignment, and fabrication challenges., • Physical stamina and the ability to work in challenging environments, including at heights and in large production areas. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working in a structural steel production facility or similar industrial environment., • Familiarity with TIG welding equipment and processes, even if not used as the primary method., • Comfort collaborating with engineers, fabricators, and construction teams on multi-phase projects., • Commitment to safety practices and continuous improvement in welding and fabrication processes. Work Environment The role is based in a large structural steel production facility located in El Mirage, AZ, with work performed both inside the shop and outside as needed. The facility uses swamp coolers and fans to provide a somewhat climate-controlled environment and is organized, with new production lines being added to support growing operations. Team members work with welding equipment such as MIG, TIG, and stick welders, plasma cutters, oxy-acetylene torches, grinders, and common welding shop tools. The environment is industrial and hands-on, requiring the use of appropriate work attire and protective gear suitable for a structural steel shop and field conditions, including work at heights and around heavy materials and equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Mirage, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
