Job Description Job Title: Maintenance Technician – Food Manufacturing Job Description This role supports a food manufacturing facility by troubleshooting, repairing, and improving production and packaging equipment. The Maintenance Technician ensures high equipment reliability, maximizes uptime, and upholds strict safety, quality, and efficiency standards while working closely with production teams and other maintenance professionals. Responsibilities • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on production and packaging equipment., • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance to reduce unplanned downtime and improve equipment reliability., • Support production teams with equipment setups, adjustments, changeovers, and troubleshooting to meet production goals., • Diagnose and repair issues with motors, pumps, PLCs, HMIs, control systems, and packaging equipment such as conveyors, palletizers, and box makers., • Inspect, maintain, and repair auxiliary systems including air compressors, water heaters, and 3-phase motors., • Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to identify and resolve equipment problems., • Use computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to complete maintenance documentation, enter work orders, and track repairs and preventive tasks., • Follow and enforce all safety procedures, GMP, HACCP, and quality standards while working on equipment and in production areas., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, ensuring tools, parts, and equipment are properly stored and maintained., • Collaborate with operators, supervisors, and maintenance team members to communicate equipment issues, repair status, and long-term solutions., • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and operational excellence., • Assist with equipment rebuilds, fabrication, and light welding as needed to improve or modify equipment., • Work independently and as part of a team, managing priorities and responding to equipment breakdowns in a timely manner., • Demonstrate flexibility in working different shifts as needed to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation. Essential Skills • 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment., • Proven experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems on production equipment., • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals., • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills., • Hands-on experience with PLCs, motors, pumps, sensors, and automated equipment., • Experience working with electrical systems up to 480 volts and 3-phase power., • Proficiency with pneumatic systems and related components., • Familiarity with CMMS, maintenance databases, or work order systems for documenting and tracking work., • Ability to perform preventative and predictive maintenance on a variety of industrial equipment., • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality and safety standards., • Comfort working in hot manufacturing environments and around operating machinery., • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with operators, supervisors, and maintenance colleagues. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Food manufacturing or food production maintenance experience preferred., • Knowledge of GMP and HACCP standards and their application in a manufacturing environment., • Experience with automation systems, control systems, and PLC troubleshooting., • Background in industrial maintenance, mechanical repair, and electrical systems (including 480V)., • Experience with equipment such as conveyors, palletizers, box makers, air compressors, water heaters, and packaging machinery., • Exposure to fabrication and welding for equipment repair or modification., • Technical training, apprenticeship, or industrial maintenance certification preferred., • Experience documenting work in CMMS and supporting continuous improvement initiatives., • Comfort working in a self-directed manner and taking ownership of assigned tasks., • Shift flexibility and willingness to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift as needed. Work Environment This role is based in a food manufacturing facility that operates multiple shifts. Available schedules include 1st shift (5:30 AM – 2:00 PM), 2nd shift (1:30 PM – 10:00 PM), and 3rd shift (9:30 PM – 6:00 AM). The environment is fast-paced and can be hot, with frequent work around production and packaging lines, conveyors, palletizers, box makers, air compressors, water heaters, and other automated equipment operating up to 480 volts and 3-phase power. You will use a variety of tools and technologies, including PLCs, HMIs, control systems, pneumatic systems, CMMS software, and standard industrial maintenance equipment. On the first day after orientation, you will tour the shop and facility, meet key team members, and learn the production process. You will be assigned a lead to shadow and work alongside, supported by a buddy program and an assigned manager to answer questions. You will typically shadow your lead for about one month before working independently. The facility promotes a family-like atmosphere with regular engagement activities such as monthly committee meetings to share feedback and ideas, team boards to review performance and improvement opportunities, holiday lunches, and frequent treats like chocolate, tacos, and ice cream sundaes.
