Job Description Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic Job Description The Maintenance Mechanic performs primarily mechanical maintenance and repair work, with a smaller portion of electrical troubleshooting, on industrial production equipment in a heat-treating facility. This role focuses on keeping ovens, industrial burners, conveyors, pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, sensors, valves, and bearings operating safely and efficiently. The Maintenance Mechanic reads and interprets prints and schematics, performs light welding, and communicates clearly with other shifts to ensure smooth handoffs and minimal downtime. Responsibilities • Perform approximately 80% mechanical and 20% electrical maintenance and repair on industrial equipment throughout the facility., • Diagnose, repair, and maintain ovens, industrial burners, conveyors, pumps, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motors, sensors, valves, gears, and bearings., • Carry out mechanical repair work, including disassembly, inspection, replacement, and reassembly of components to restore equipment to proper operation., • Troubleshoot industrial equipment mechanically to identify root causes of failures and implement effective corrective actions., • Perform electrical troubleshooting on equipment up to 480V, including both single-phase and three-phase systems, as well as lower voltages., • Read and interpret mechanical prints, electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to guide maintenance and repair activities., • Install, route, and secure conduit and pull wire for equipment as needed, following safe electrical practices., • Conduct preventive maintenance on machines and systems to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life., • Repair and/or replace pumps, motors, gears, bearings, and related components using appropriate tools and techniques., • Perform light welding, including MIG and stick welding on mild steel, to support equipment repair and fabrication needs., • Work safely and effectively in a high-temperature industrial environment, including areas that can exceed 100 degrees., • Communicate clearly with the next shift during the 30-minute overlap, detailing work completed, current equipment status, and tasks that still need attention., • Collaborate with other maintenance technicians and production personnel to prioritize work orders and support continuous operations., • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, repairs, and preventive maintenance performed on equipment., • Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and facility guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Essential Skills • 3–5+ years of recent industrial mechanical experience working on production or manufacturing equipment., • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform hands-on maintenance and repair on hydraulic and pneumatic equipment., • Ability to troubleshoot industrial equipment mechanically, including identifying issues with pumps, motors, gears, bearings, and related components., • Capability to troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480V in both single-phase and three-phase configurations, as well as lower voltages., • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical prints, electrical schematics, and blueprints., • Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial machinery and equipment., • Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics, including troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems., • Experience with wiring, electronics, conduit installation, and pulling wire in an industrial setting., • Ability to perform light MIG and stick welding on mild steel to support equipment repair and maintenance., • Comfort working in a high-heat environment, including areas that can exceed 100 degrees., • Strong troubleshooting skills in both mechanical and electrical domains, with a focus on industrial maintenance., • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with team members across different shifts. The position operates on three shifts: first shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., second shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and third shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Employees typically work 40 hours per week, with overtime available on a voluntary basis rather than mandatory. The setting is a nonunion industrial facility that emphasizes reliable operations, clear communication between shifts, and safe maintenance practices. Dress is typical for industrial maintenance work, with appropriate protective gear and clothing suited to high-heat, hands-on mechanical and electrical tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Toledo, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
