The Product Definition Consultant is responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and translating customer, dealer, and market needs across North America and the Americas into actionable product and portfolio strategies for Caterpillar's Retail Electric Power Solutions (REPS) business. This role serves as the voice of the customer, partnering closely with dealers, sales teams, engineering, marketing, and product groups to identify growth opportunities, define unmet customer needs, support new product introductions, and improve the competitiveness of Caterpillar's electric power offerings. Success requires strong commercial acumen, customer focus, technical understanding, disciplined execution, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority. What you will do: • Customer & Market Insight Development, • Gather, analyze, and communicate customer, dealer, consultant, electrical contractor, and competitive insights across North America and the Americas., • Identify unmet customer needs and market opportunities that can drive profitable growth., • Conduct market research, customer interviews, dealer visits, and competitive assessments., • Monitor industry trends across data centers, telecom, healthcare, commercial property, industrial, public sector, and emerging energy solutions., • Product Definition & Portfolio Strategy, • Support development of regional product roadmaps aligned with global REPS strategy., • Translate customer requirements into product enhancements, features, configurations, and future NPI opportunities., • Develop and maintain product requirements, one-page business cases, and customer-backed justifications for investment decisions., • Prioritize product opportunities based on customer value, strategic fit, differentiation, and financial return., • Product Council & Governance Leadership, • Coordinate regional product council inputs, customer feedback forums, and Americas product priority reviews., • Support PACT development, one-page business cases, product prioritization, and annual planning activities., • Ensure customer and dealer feedback is visible, structured, and incorporated into product decisions., • Track open actions, opportunities, ownership, and deliverables through disciplined governance processes., • Dealer & Sales Partnership, • Partner with Americas sales teams and Caterpillar dealers to understand market needs, buying behavior, and growth opportunities., • Support dealer engagements, customer visits, strategic account reviews, and feedback loops., • Act as a liaison between sales organizations and product groups to ensure alignment on product priorities., • Help develop business cases for regional growth initiatives, pilot programs, channel opportunities, and adjacent market expansion., • New Product Introduction Support, • Support NPI and PCI programs by providing customer insights, business justification, competitive context, and launch readiness feedback., • Assist in developing regional launch strategies, sales enablement input, and customer communication plans., • Monitor product performance, customer acceptance, and dealer feedback after launch., • Identify gaps between product requirements, launch readiness, and field execution., • Competitive & Business Case Analysis, • Support competitive comparisons, pricing inputs, value proposition development, and market opportunity sizing., • Translate data and field insights into clear recommendations for product priorities and investment decisions., • Develop practical, executive-ready summaries that help leadership make informed trade-off decisions. What you will have: • Customer Focus: Knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions., • Data Gathering & Analysis: Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment., • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment., • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors., • Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization. Top candidates will also have: • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university., • Experience in product management, product definition, commercial, sales, engineering, marketing, or related business roles., • Demonstrated ability to analyze customer, dealer, market, and competitive inputs and translate them into clear business recommendations., • Experience working with cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders without direct authority., • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create concise business cases, presentations, and one-page summaries., • Electric Power, generator set, industrial equipment, energy, or related industry experience., • Understanding of generator set applications, dealer channels, customer buying behaviors, and competitive dynamics., • Experience working directly with Cat dealers, regional sales teams, customers, consultants, or channel partners., • Ability to synthesize market, customer, competitive, and financial information into clear product recommendations., • Experience supporting product roadmaps, NPI/PCI programs, business cases, or product governance processes., • Strong ownership mindset with the discipline to track actions, decisions, deliverables, and follow-through.
