Job DescriptionJob Title: PhlebotomistJob Description The Phlebotomist provides skilled expertise in blood collection and specimen preparation, ensuring high-quality samples are obtained with minimal discomfort for patients across a wide range of ages and backgrounds. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality care by performing accurate blood draws, properly handling and processing specimens, and maintaining a calm, reassuring environment for patients. Responsibilities • Perform venipuncture and other blood draw procedures using straight needles and butterfly needles while ensuring patient comfort and safety., • Collect blood and other specimens, such as urine or fecal samples, in accordance with established procedures and clinical protocols., • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients to help them feel informed and at ease., • Label specimen tubes accurately, match laboratory requisition forms to specimens, and verify all information to ensure 100% accuracy., • Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders, following proper laboratory procedures., • Store specimen samples at required temperatures and place them in appropriate collection containers or tubes to maintain specimen integrity., • Package specimens securely for transport and follow all protocols necessary to preserve sample quality during transit., • Update patient information and documentation in the system with strong attention to detail and accuracy., • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures in accordance with laboratory standards., • Read and fully understand physicians’ orders to ensure correct tests and specimen handling., • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts or orders to verify accuracy before processing., • Answer telephone calls professionally and provide laboratory results or information as needed to satisfy inquiries, within appropriate guidelines., • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all relevant safety and regulatory requirements., • Wear appropriate attire and personal protective equipment in alignment with safety and infection control standards., • Attend annual department trainings and maintain up-to-date knowledge of procedures, regulations, and best practices.Essential Skills, • 2–3 years of experience performing blood draws and phlebotomy procedures., • Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy, including venipuncture using straight needles and butterfly needles., • Experience collecting, labeling, centrifuging, and processing blood and other specimens., • Ability to work with pediatric patients and adapt techniques to different age groups and patient needs., • Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail for documentation, labeling, and data entry., • Ability to fully understand and follow physicians’ orders and laboratory test requirements., • Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations and adherence to safety and compliance standards., • Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with patients, staff, and callers.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working with pediatric blood draws and specimen processing., • Comfort working in multiple locations and adapting to in-state travel as needed., • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple specimens, requisitions, and patient records., • Ability to handle laboratory results inquiries over the phone in a professional and accurate manner.Work Environment This role follows a structured weekly schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; Tuesday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm; and Thursday from 9:30 am to 7:00 pm, with work every 1st and 3rd Saturday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The schedule may change based on client needs, offering variety and occasional in-state travel for those who enjoy a change of scenery. The work is performed in clinical and laboratory settings that require adherence to safety protocols, proper specimen handling, and use of appropriate attire and personal protective equipment. The environment emphasizes high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and ongoing training to keep skills and knowledge current. No holiday or vacation work is required in this position. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Middletown, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
