Job Description Packer Location: Elk Grove Pay: $21.57 Shift: Night Shift Job Description The Packer supports efficient food manufacturing operations by safely packaging tortillas according to strict quality, food safety, and production standards. This role prepares and operates packaging equipment, maintains a clean and organized work area, completes line rotations, and accurately records production data while consistently meeting productivity and safety goals. Responsibilities • Perform all tasks in strict accordance with safety and food safety standards, always prioritizing a safe working environment., • Participate in safety training programs and actively contribute to safety initiatives to promote a strong safety culture., • Ensure full compliance with regulatory and third‑party requirements, including SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA, Food Fraud/Defense, Allergens, Organic, and Gluten Free programs., • Maintain thorough knowledge of the products being packed, including product specifications and the correct weight of each tortilla produced., • Retrieve and review product specifications from the company ERP system before and during production runs., • Identify and understand the specifications of all boxes and bags used for packaging products., • Program date coding machines for bags and boxes according to product rotation and daily production requirements., • Prepare the workstation at the start of the shift with the appropriate bags and boxes and maintain a clean, organized work area in line with good housekeeping policies., • Follow the production schedule and specifications to meet established productivity and output goals., • Participate in line rotation throughout the day or workweek, including moving to other lines, assisting co‑workers, or cleaning other lines during machine downtime or break and lunch coverage., • Maintain continuous communication with the line leader and machine operators regarding any product deficiencies, such as undercooked or overcooked tortillas, incorrect weights, or size variations., • Foster proactive communication and collaboration with co‑workers and leadership to resolve production and quality issues., • Operate packaging equipment such as Auto Baggers and Ilapak machines to ensure consistent and accurate packaging., • Complete changeovers in the entire packaging area, including vision systems, counter stackers, auto baggers, bag printers, and weight settings., • Enter production information accurately into the TGI machine log and complete product pathways in the TGI system., • Record all downtime events in the machine log system to support accurate production reporting and troubleshooting., • Retrieve packaging materials from the warehouse before production runs and return all unused materials to warehouse storage at the end of the run., • Use computers and RF guns proficiently to access product specifications, manage inventory, and enter production data., • Continuously rotate within assigned workstations, including packaging tortillas, boxing product, lifting boxes up to 50 lbs, and stacking or palletizing product throughout the shift., • Assist with quality assurance activities such as pH verification, metal detection checks, recording pH levels, and identifying specification deviations or line quality issues., • Follow and comply with all SQF requirements and maintain workstations according to SQF guidelines., • Perform visual inspections of products and packaging materials and promptly report any defects or irregularities., • Operate pallet jacks and other material handling equipment to move finished products and raw materials safely and efficiently., • Support general labor tasks such as picking, stacking, palletizing, and material handling as needed to keep production lines running efficiently., • Adhere to all company policies regarding attendance, punctuality, food safety, and zero‑tolerance drug and alcohol requirements., • Perform other duties as assigned to support production, quality, and safety objectives. Essential Skills • Grade school education required; High School Diploma or GED is a plus., • 1–2 years of experience operating or working with food manufacturing machinery or similar equipment., • 1–2 years of experience following work task specifications, standard operating procedures (SOPs), recipes, or similar documented instructions., • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to read instructions, complete records, and communicate with team members and leaders., • Proficiency in basic math and use of a calculator to verify counts, weights, and production data., • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use ERP systems, TGI machine logs, and other production software., • Ability to use an RF gun for inventory and material handling tasks., • Proficient analytical and problem‑solving skills to identify and correct product, packaging, or process issues., • Strong organizational skills to manage materials, documentation, and workflow at the workstation., • Ability to work effectively as a team player and support co‑workers during line rotations and coverage., • Self‑motivation and attention to detail, including the ability to identify errors in product and packaging materials., • Ability to work at the required production speed while following all safety and food safety requirements., • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs on a regular basis., • Ability to stand for prolonged periods and perform continual walking on hard surfaces., • Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, reach, grasp, kneel, squat, and work in adverse and awkward positions as required by the role., • Reliability and punctuality, with flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and off‑shifts as needed., • Ability to remain in a consistent state of alertness and perform all essential job functions in a safe manner., • Ability to comply with all food safety and third‑party certification policies, including SQF, Gluten‑Free, and Organic standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in packing, packaging, general labor, picking, material handling, palletizing, stacking, and inventory support in a manufacturing environment., • Familiarity with good manufacturing practices (GMPs) and general manufacturing processes., • Experience operating pallet jacks or other industrial material handling equipment., • Comfort working around rotating and reciprocating machine parts in a production setting., • Experience assisting with quality assurance programs, including pH verification, metal detection, and line quality checks., • Ability to interpret production reports and understand product specifications accessed via an ERP system., • Strong attention to detail when performing visual inspections of product and packaging., • Demonstrated commitment to safety, housekeeping, and adherence to standard operating procedures. Work involves continual walking and standing on hard surfaces, as well as frequent climbing and descending steps. The environment includes exposure to rotating and reciprocating machine parts and operation of industrial equipment such as pallet jacks and other material handling tools. Employees work in areas that may be cool or hot and can be noisy due to production equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elk Grove, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.57 - $21.57/hr.
