Job Description Job Title: MIG Welder – Fabrication Shop Job Description This role focuses on MIG welding and fabricating large steel roof sections in a fabrication shop environment. You will perform primarily flat welds on roof modules close to the ground, working from your knees for extended periods. The position starts on a specific roof fabrication project with strong potential to transition into a long-term role that offers cross-training in fabrication, machining, and CNC laser operations. Responsibilities • Perform entry-level MIG welding on stainless and carbon steel components for roof sections., • Weld from a kneeling position for most of the shift, completing welds approximately one foot off the ground., • Lay down consistent, structurally sound welds, including fillet welds, T-welds, and welding I-beams to steel sheets. Essential Skills • Proven experience in MIG welding, • Ability to weld from a kneeling position for up to 10 hours per day, • Capability to consistently lay down clean, structurally sound welds on flat work, • Comfort working on welds positioned approximately one foot off the ground in a physically demanding role, • Reliability to work a schedule of approximately 50 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Exposure to blueprint reading, even though this role does not require reading prints for daily tasks, • Comfort working with MIG welders on various materials, including stainless steel, • Valid DL Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work in a fabrication shop environment as part of a small team of about five people. The culture emphasizes hard work and pride in blue-collar craftsmanship. The shop uses fabrication and machine shop equipment, including MIG welders, power tools, CNC lasers, shears, and presses. The schedule typically runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., averaging around 50 hours per week with overtime, especially in the summer. The work is physically demanding and involves welding from your knees with welds positioned close to the ground. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
