Job Description General Summary The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for clients, families, staff, and visitors at Firefly Autism. This position performs routine custodial duties, proactively maintains cleanliness throughout the facility, and responds promptly to sanitation requests during operating hours. The Custodian plays a vital role in supporting infection prevention, client safety, and uninterrupted clinical services by ensuring the center remains clean, organized, and ready to support high quality autism treatment. Position Note This is an active, daytime custodial position that supports the clinical team by maintaining a clean environment and responding promptly to sanitation needs throughout the workday, including accidents involving bodily fluids. The Custodian is an important member of the team, helping ensure clients receive services in a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. Work Environment Work is performed in an autism treatment center where employees regularly interact with clients, families, and clinical staff. This position requires routine exposure to cleaning chemicals, infectious materials, and bodily fluids, including urine, feces, vomit, blood, saliva, and other potentially infectious materials. Appropriate training, personal protective equipment (PPE), and cleaning supplies will be provided to ensure duties are performed safely and in accordance with OSHA standards. Essential Qualifications • Bachelors degree or 4 years experience working with children., • Previous custodial, environmental services, school, childcare, healthcare, or commercial cleaning experience preferred., • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks., • Strong attention to detail., • Reliable attendance and punctuality., • Comfortable working in an environment serving children, adolescents, and young adults with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities., • Must be comfortable cleaning and disinfecting bodily fluids, including urine, feces, vomit, blood, saliva, and other potentially infectious materials while following established infection control procedures., • Ability to complete OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen and other required safety training. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Daily Custodial Services • Clean and disinfect classrooms, therapy rooms, offices, conference rooms, kitchens, restrooms, hallways, waiting areas, sensory rooms, and common spaces., • Sweep, vacuum, mop, and disinfect flooring throughout the facility., • Empty trash and recycling receptacles and replace liners., • Clean tables, desks, chairs, countertops, sinks, mirrors, windows, appliances, drinking fountains, door handles, light switches, and other high touch surfaces., • Clean and sanitize restrooms throughout the day., • Clean kitchen areas, break rooms, refrigerators, microwaves, coffee stations, and shared appliances., • Conduct routine walkthroughs of the facility throughout the workday to proactively identify cleaning needs, sanitation concerns, supply shortages, and safety hazards., • Maintain an organized, clean, and professional appearance throughout the facility. Responsive Cleaning and Sanitation • Work onsite during operating hours (generally 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) to respond promptly to staff requests for cleaning and sanitation., • Clean, sanitize, and disinfect spills and accidents involving bodily fluids, including urine, feces, vomit, blood, saliva, and other potentially infectious materials., • Dispose of biohazardous waste in accordance with OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standards and Firefly Autism policies., • Thoroughly disinfect affected areas and return treatment spaces to safe use as quickly as possible., • Help minimize disruptions to client programming through prompt response to sanitation needs. Infection Prevention • Routinely disinfect high touch surfaces throughout the day., • Clean and sanitize therapy equipment, sensory equipment, mats, toys, and shared materials., • Support enhanced cleaning efforts during periods of increased illness., • Follow all infection prevention, safety, and chemical handling procedures. Supply Management • Monitor inventory of custodial and restroom supplies., • Restock paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, soap, hand sanitizer, gloves, trash liners, and cleaning products., • Notify the Facilities Manager when supplies require replenishment. Facility Readiness • Prepare the center for the following business day by ensuring all areas are clean and organized., • Return furniture and equipment to designated locations., • Cover outdoor sandbox and complete other assigned end of day facility tasks., • Ensure trash is removed and common areas are ready for staff and clients each morning. Additional Responsibilities • Identify facility concerns and report maintenance issues to the Facilities Manager., • Assist with periodic deep cleaning projects., • Maintain positive working relationships with staff and provide excellent internal customer service., • Perform other custodial duties as assigned.
