You will work on underground and prefabricated systems, checking levels, installing plastic and copper piping, and ensuring all heating, water, and drainage systems meet specifications and plumbing codes. The position involves a mix of welding, pipefitting, and plumbing tasks on a variety of piping materials and sizes in a large commercial construction environment. Responsibilities • Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water, and drainage systems in accordance with specifications and plumbing codes., • Perform underground piping work for water, sanitary, waste, and storm systems, including installation and extension of piping to connect fixtures and plumbing components., • Work with 1/2 inch to 6 inch CPVC, PVC, copper, and other piping materials in both underground and prefabricated applications., • Install domestic water and sanitary piping systems, ensuring proper alignment, support, and functionality., • Install fixtures, hangers, supports, and pipe assemblies to secure piping systems and maintain proper layout and elevation., • Measure, cut, thread, or bend pipe to required angles using pipe cutters, hand tools, power tools, pipe-threading machines, or pipe-bending machines., • Study building plans, blueprints, and specifications to assess materials and equipment needs, determine sequences of pipe installations, and plan installation activities., • Locate and mark positions for pipe installations, connections, hangers, passage holes, and fixtures using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels., • Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and monitor pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks., • Assemble pipe sections, tubing, and fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, soldering, brazing, or welding equipment., • Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, and appliances such as dishwashers, water heaters, sinks, and toilets., • Engage in pipe cutting, preassembly, and installation of plumbing systems or components in a commercial construction setting., • Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes, pipe fittings, and related components while maintaining structural integrity., • Review building codes and specifications to determine correct work procedures and ensure compliance with applicable standards., • Maintain and repair plumbing systems by replacing defective washers, mending or replacing broken pipes, and clearing clogged drains., • Anchor steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes securely in place and maintain system stability., • Work collaboratively with construction crews and other trades to complete projects efficiently and safely on active job sites. Essential Skills • Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial construction performing pipe installation, welding, and related plumbing work., • Proven experience working with CPVC, PVC, cast iron, copper, and plastic piping in new commercial construction projects., • Ability to assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes., • Hands-on experience with domestic water and sanitary piping systems in commercial environments., • Proficiency in pipe welding, including MIG welding, flux core welding, and pipe welding on carbon steel and other materials., • Ability to measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe using pipe cutters, hand tools, power tools, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines., • Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, building plans, and specifications to plan and execute installations., • Capability to locate and mark positions for pipe installations, connections, hangers, passage holes, and fixtures using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels., • Experience assembling pipe sections and fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, soldering, brazing, or welding equipment., • Competence in installing fixtures, hangers, valves, and appliances such as dishwashers, water heaters, sinks, and toilets., • Ability to perform maintenance and repairs on plumbing systems, including replacing washers, repairing or replacing pipes, and clearing clogged drains., • Ownership of basic hand tools required for pipefitting, plumbing, and welding tasks., • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds multiple times per day, stand for extended periods, and climb ladders and steps safely on a construction site. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in commercial construction projects such as apartments, hospitals, and institutional facilities., • Experience working on large new construction commercial job sites with multiple trades and phases of work., • Familiarity with pre-fabrication of piping systems and components for installation on site., • Knowledge of installing underground storm, sanitary, and water piping systems in accordance with building codes., • Experience checking levels and ensuring accurate alignment and grading of underground and aboveground piping., • Exposure to both plumbing and pipefitting disciplines, including fabrication, fitting, and welding of pipe systems., • Comfort working with a variety of materials, including CPVC, PVC, cast iron, copper, carbon steel, and plastic pipe., • Ability to plan work sequences and material needs based on review of blueprints and site conditions., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, safety, and code compliance on active construction sites. The role requires frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, climbing ladders and steps, and moving throughout active construction areas. You will use a variety of tools and equipment such as hand tools, power tools, pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, pipe-bending machines, welding equipment, and measuring instruments. The environment is fast-paced and physically demanding, with a strong emphasis on safety practices, proper use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to site rules and construction standards.
