Job Description Job Title: Sr Sanitation Lead / QA Technician Lead Job Description The Sr Sanitation Lead / QA Technician Lead oversees all sanitation activities on an assigned shift to maintain a clean, food-safe environment throughout the facility, surrounding areas, and equipment. This role coordinates daily assignments, trains and develops sanitation team members, and ensures all work meets strict standards for cleanliness, accuracy, and conformance to specifications. The position provides leadership to a team of 20+ employees, including multiple line leads, and serves as backup to the Sanitation Supervisor in their absence. The Sr Sanitation Lead plays a key role in supporting food safety, product quality, and continuous improvement across the plant. Responsibilities • Lead and coordinate all sanitation activities on the assigned shift to ensure a clean and food-safe facility, including production areas, surrounding spaces, and equipment., • Support the onboarding and orientation of new employees and provide ongoing coaching and training to sanitation team members., • Train sanitation personnel in safety practices, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), test methods, and sanitation procedures., • Review daily sanitation reports and ensure timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions to address any deficiencies or poor sanitation practices., • Perform testing of sanitation chemicals as needed to verify correct concentrations and proper usage., • Observe and enforce strict sanitation specifications and procedures for all team members., • Conduct environmental and product surface swabbing as needed to identify unsanitary surfaces and verify sanitation effectiveness., • Maintain sanitation inventory by monitoring stock levels, identifying items that are running low, and requesting needed materials., • Effectively interact with other plant departments to identify and address potential food safety or quality issues., • Work with the Sanitation Supervisor or Manager to develop and update cleaning procedures, the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), and test methodologies., • Support the identification of root causes for sanitation or food safety issues and assist in developing and implementing corrective and preventive actions., • Enforce safety within the department through continuous training on safety procedures and regulations., • Collaborate with production supervisors from previous and next shifts to ensure smooth transition of tasks and responsibilities between shifts., • Manage the chemicals cage and sanitation supply inventory, ensuring proper storage, labeling, and controlled access., • Ensure that all sanitation activities are completed on time and in accordance with the Master Sanitation Schedule., • Promote and enforce workplace safety procedures with all team members and model safe work practices and behavior., • Oversee daily scheduling and efficient allocation of resources, coordinating the assignment of duties among team members., • Train sanitation personnel in best practices, safety requirements, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and appropriate cleaning and sanitation of equipment., • Communicate regularly with production supervisors to assign duties, review work, and ensure tasks meet standards for exactness, neatness, and conformance to specifications., • Complete required documentation and summarize shift performance at the end of each day, including metrics related to safety, quality, productivity, and delivery., • Maintain strong communication and partnership with quality assurance and production departments to resolve issues and support shared goals., • Work closely with support staff such as QA Technicians, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Supervisors, and Warehouse personnel to resolve operational and sanitation-related issues., • Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with the Sanitation Manager., • Coordinate and conduct weekly safety training sessions with team members according to the published training schedule and complete all required training records., • Maintain a working knowledge of all equipment and tools in the facility while consistently following sanitation and safety precautions., • Perform only job functions for which proper training has been received and understood, ensuring safe and compliant execution., • Demonstrate punctuality and adherence to company attendance policies, including working overtime and weekends as required by business needs., • Lead a team of 20+ employees, including at least two line leads, and provide coverage for all lead roles within the department as needed., • Cover the entire factory’s sanitation operations in the absence of the Sanitation Supervisor, ensuring continuity of food safety and sanitation standards., • Perform other related duties as assigned to support sanitation, quality assurance, and overall plant operations. Essential Skills • Proven ability to lead and coordinate a sanitation team in a food production or similar environment., • Strong knowledge of food safety and quality principles, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)., • Demonstrated competency in quality assurance, food quality, and inspection activities., • Experience working with standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to sanitation and quality., • Familiarity with corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes to address sanitation and quality issues., • Ability to perform and interpret tests of sanitation chemicals to ensure proper concentration and usage., • Skill in conducting environmental and product surface swabbing to verify sanitation effectiveness., • Strong communication skills to effectively train, coach, and direct team members and collaborate with cross-functional departments., • Ability to organize, plan, and schedule work to meet deadlines and comply with the Master Sanitation Schedule., • Demonstrated dependability, including consistent attendance, punctuality, and reliability., • Sound decision-making skills to address issues in real time and support safe, efficient operations., • Commitment to safety orientation, including enforcing safety procedures and promoting a strong safety culture., • Ability to complete detailed documentation and accurately summarize shift performance metrics., • Capability to work overnight (3rd shift) and weekends as required by business needs., • Ability to perform all essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations available as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience leading a team of 20 or more employees, including line leads, in a production or sanitation setting., • Prior experience in a food manufacturing, processing, or similar regulated environment., • Experience collaborating with QA Technicians, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Supervisors, and Warehouse teams., • Familiarity with Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS) and development of cleaning procedures and test methodologies., • Experience conducting safety training and maintaining training records., • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and proper handling of sanitation chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE)., • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to build effective partnerships across departments., • Demonstrated ability to support continuous improvement initiatives in sanitation and quality., • Comfort working in a structured environment with defined specifications, standards, and compliance requirements. Work Environment This role is based in a food production facility and requires work in varying temperature conditions, ranging from sub-0°ree; to approximately 85°ree;. The position is scheduled on 3rd shift, typically from 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM, and includes weekend work as required, generally not exceeding 40 hours per week. Employees may be exposed to cold, refrigerated, or frozen areas as well as warmer production zones.
