Position Summary Orion Lending is seeking a Senior Mortgage Operations Trainer with deep subject-matter expertise in mortgage operations with an emphasis on underwriting to lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of training that develops our operations workforce. Working under limited supervision, this senior team member owns the end-to-end training lifecycle for underwriting and broader operations functions—partnering with underwriting leadership, operations managers, and compliance to build curriculum that shortens ramp time, elevates loan quality, and keeps our teams current with agency, investor, and regulatory requirements. This is a hands-on, senior individual-contributor role for a proven mortgage professional who can move fluidly between underwriting and all operation roles for onboarding, systems, policy and procedures, and additional training sessions. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Curriculum Design & Facilitation • Develop training materials, participant guides, presentations, procedures, forms, job aids, quick-reference guides, and course descriptions in accordance with department standards., • Facilitate live virtual and in-person trainings, workshops, and meetings using instructional best practices and adult-learning principles., • Design learning content that is clear, concise, engaging, accurate, and measurable against defined learning objectives and business outcomes., • Interview subject-matter experts, observe work processes, and collaborate with business leaders to research and analyze information required for new or updated documentation. Onboarding & New-Hire Enablement • Design and deliver a comprehensive training program for underwriting and operations in conjunction with underwriting and operations leadership., • Onboard newly hired underwriters and other operations team members to Orion Lending, orienting them to our workflows, expectations, and standards., • Deliver role-based onboarding that gets experienced hires productive quickly in the Orion environment—focused on how we do the work here, not on teaching the underlying profession. Systems Training • Provide full systems training on Orion’s loan origination system, automated underwriting systems (DU/LP), imaging/workflow tools, and other platforms used across operations., • Build and maintain systems job aids, step-by-step guides, and walkthroughs so team members can navigate Orion’s technology confidently and consistently., • Support system enhancements and rollouts with timely training and change-management communications. Policies & Procedures Training • Train operations teams on Orion’s policies, procedures, and workflows, ensuring alignment with agency, investor, and regulatory requirements., • Interpret and translate Orion’s procedures into clear, role-specific learning for underwriting and each operations function., • Partner with Quality Control and Compliance to identify knowledge gaps from audits and error trends and convert them into targeted procedural training. Required Qualifications and Experience • Minimum 7 years of experience in the mortgage lending industry, with a strong underwriting background and working knowledge of the broader operations workflow (processing, closing, and funding)., • Solid understanding of Conventional (Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac), FHA, VA, USDA, and non-QM products, and automated underwriting systems (DU/LP) and loan origination systems., • Minimum 3 years of experience onboarding, training, or developing procedures/process documentation in the mortgage lending industry., • Proven ability to onboard experienced hires and deliver systems, policy, and refresher training to both new hires and tenured staff., • Excellent operating knowledge of mortgage lending and banking industry processes, including wholesale lending., • Strong knowledge of agency, investor, and federal/state regulatory requirements affecting operations and loan quality., • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training, writing, and mortgage industry experience. Preferred Qualifications and Experience • Experience in a wholesale or correspondent lending environment., • Prior senior underwriter, underwriting team lead, or underwriting trainer experience., • Formal instructional-design experience (ADDIE, adult-learning methodology) or industry certifications (e.g., DE/SAR/LAPP-SAR, NAMU designations, CPTD/APTD)., • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, plus Visio, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and virtual training/LMS platforms., • Proficiency with virtual training technology for screen sharing, video conferencing, and learner engagement.
