Job Description Job Title: Ground Support Equipment Mechanic – 1st Shift Pay: $27-$30 Job Description This role maintains and repairs aircraft ground support equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation on the ramp. You diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues, perform preventive maintenance, and complete detailed repair documentation while working on a variety of diesel, gas, and LP-powered equipment. Responsibilities • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment failures on aircraft ground support equipment., • Perform complex diagnostics, service repairs, and maintenance work on customer and company-owned ground support equipment., • Diagnose and repair engine mechanical issues on diesel, gas, and LP engines., • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems using wiring diagrams and schematics., • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, hoses, valves, and actuators., • Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic start systems using appropriate schematics and test equipment., • Use diagnostic software to troubleshoot and resolve issues with Powertrain Management Systems., • Perform preventive maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and component replacement as needed., • Accurately complete vehicle repair orders and all required documentation to maintain quality and compliance standards., • Communicate safety concerns, equipment condition, and customer service requests clearly and promptly to management., • Use hand tools and shop equipment safely and correctly while following all safety procedures., • Support a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company and airport requirements., • Perform other related duties as assigned by management. Essential Skills • At least 2 years of related experience in automotive, diesel, ground support equipment, or heavy equipment maintenance., • Hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing diesel, gas, and LP engines., • Demonstrated ability to perform preventive maintenance, including lubrication, inspections, and basic repairs., • Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems using schematics., • Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems., • Experience troubleshooting and repairing pneumatic systems and start systems., • Ability to use diagnostic software to troubleshoot Powertrain Management Systems., • Proficiency with hand tools used in mechanical repair and maintenance., • Ability to accurately complete repair orders and service documentation., • High school diploma or equivalent., • Valid driver’s license with the ability to comply with DOT policies., • Ability to obtain and maintain an airport-issued ID badge in accordance with airport contract requirements., • Ability to meet FAA drug testing requirements., • Ability to successfully complete a background check., • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team., • Commitment to following safety procedures and reporting safety concerns promptly. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Technical certification or diploma in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment technology is preferred., • ASE certification is preferred., • Prior experience as a lube technician, diesel technician, or similar role is beneficial., • Experience working specifically with ground support equipment (GSE) is a plus., • Familiarity with service, repair, and maintenance practices for engines and powertrains., • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins., • Strong attention to detail and quality in all repair and maintenance work., • Positive attitude and strong work ethic, as contract-to-hire timelines are influenced by performance and professionalism. Work Environment This is a 1st shift position, working Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., supporting ground support equipment in an active airport environment. You work around aircraft, vehicles, and heavy equipment, performing maintenance and repairs in both shop and ramp conditions. The role involves regular use of hand tools and diagnostic equipment; power tools are provided by the employer. The position may require occasional overtime, although it is not guaranteed. You work under established safety procedures, comply with airport and regulatory requirements, and operate in a fast-paced setting where reliability, punctuality, and safe work practices are essential. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Reno, NV. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
