Job Description Job Title: Architectural Job Captain Job Description This role combines architectural project management, design, and technical production for multi-family, mixed-use, commercial, and rehabilitation projects, with a strong emphasis on affordable housing and large preservation initiatives. You will lead project delivery from design development through construction documentation, manage multiple drawing sets and filings, and guide junior team members while collaborating closely with clients and consultants. The position offers a hybrid work schedule and the opportunity to contribute to award-winning work in housing, mixed-use developments, and charter school projects across New York and other states. Responsibilities • Manage multi-family, commercial, and NYCHA projects, primarily located in New York State and New York City., • Lead the preparation, coordination, and review of construction documents and specifications for renovation, restoration, and rehabilitation projects, including thousands of apartment units across the New York City region., • Oversee multiple filings and drawing sets for large preservation and rehabilitation multifamily projects throughout the New York Metro Area., • Design, detail, and draft architectural plans using Revit and AutoCAD, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable building codes., • Direct and mentor a team of junior architects and coordinate the work of external consultants to maintain project quality and consistency., • Manage client relationships by communicating clearly, setting expectations, and ensuring project milestones and deadlines are met., • Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions, take measurements, and document field conditions through photographs and notes., • Identify practical solutions to field conditions and integrate them into design and construction documents., • Participate in design development for mixed-use, multi-family, commercial, and historic preservation projects., • Coordinate construction administration tasks as needed, including responding to RFIs and reviewing submittals related to construction documentation., • Travel to project sites as required to support project progress, field verification, and coordination with stakeholders. Essential Skills • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture., • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in architecture, including project work in multi-family developments., • Proficiency in Revit for design, documentation, and production., • Experience with multi-family projects in New York State and New York City, including familiarity with local codes and regulations., • Strong knowledge of building codes applicable to multi-family projects., • Proficiency in preparing construction documents and construction documentation for renovation, restoration, and new construction., • Experience with NYCHA or similar public housing projects., • Project management experience, including managing multiple projects, filings, and drawing sets concurrently., • Experience in architectural design and design development for multi-family, mixed-use, and commercial projects., • Working knowledge of AutoCAD for drafting and detailing., • Experience with historic preservation and rehabilitation projects., • Ability to evaluate existing conditions and incorporate findings into design and documentation., • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, and internal teams., • Ability to work independently as a self-starter and take ownership of project tasks from start to finish., • Capability to visit job sites and develop practical solutions to field conditions. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with affordable housing, mixed-use developments, and charter school projects., • Experience with construction administration activities such as RFIs, submittal reviews, and coordination with contractors., • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior architects and support their professional development., • Comfort working on projects spread across a wide geographic area within the New York Metro region., • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines, filings, and project priorities simultaneously., • Ability to contribute to an open, collaborative, and modern studio culture. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Suffern, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $90000.00/hr.
