Job DescriptionTitle - Scientific - Process Group Chemist Location - Carlsbad CA Duration - 12 Months (Possibility of Extension) Description • The Process Group Chemist, in accordance with forecasted requirements, participates in the manufacture of products within QSR and ISO regulations. This position reviews and reconciles documents and work orders, supports assigned projects with minimal supervision, participates in product transfers, leads or supports departmental troubleshooting and process improvement teams, and displays an improving working knowledge of business processes as they relate to manufacturing., • Manufactures (i.e. Formulates bulks, and Quality Controls) products (i.e. Lateral flow devices, controls/calibrators and microtiter systems) while adhering to regulatory requirements and business polices /procedures and schedules., • Provides training to chemistry staff on Manufacturing Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)., • Displays leadership by assessing issues affecting departmental performance, Quality standards, and product quality then communicates to management and initiates appropriate corrective action., • Supports departmental troubleshooting, cross-functional projects and process improvement teams., • Reviews completed Device History Records and performs financial reviews of work orders. Initiates appropriate corrective action through Engineering Change Orders (ECO). Maintains daily adherence to Production goals relating to MUV/LUV, labor utilization, work order closure, and schedule adherence., • Perform other work-related duties as assigned (Last bullet required in North America)The Key, • Stakeholders Internal Customers: Inventory Control – obtains/returns materials, resolves material variances related to work order usage., • SAP S/4HANA – reconciles work orders, checks material availability, BOMs, general manufacturing queries, and closes work orders; prepares work order variance reports., • Process Engineering – technical troubleshooting, product transfers., • Production – coordinates optimization/matrix assembly, • Planning – works with supervisor and planners to develop weekly schedule and report on schedule adherence., • R&D - participate in product transfers, validations, resolution of technical issues. § Quality/Documentation – ECO's, NCMR's, deviations, validations, QTP's, investigation reports. External Customers: § n/aSkills, • The Individual Required Skills: B.S./B.A. Life/Applied Sciences or equivalent experience., • Basic algebraic, statistical and mathematical skills., • General computer knowledge and experience with EXCEL or equivalent programs. Proficient in data analysis, data summary, and presentation § Good organizational skills. Laboratory skills, such as protein purification, antibody conjugation, solution preparation. ELISA experience, assay development skills, etc., • Good verbal and written communication skill, • Good interpersonal skills., • Knowledge of QSR's and ISO 9001., • Knowledge of experimental design. What You'll Do Working closely with the R&D team, you'll help develop, optimize, and commercialize innovative fire protection products from concept through manufacturing. Responsibilities include: • Design, execute, and analyze laboratory experiments to support new product development, • Develop and optimize chemical formulations through systematic experimental design, • Perform wet chemistry involving aqueous formulations, organic salts, corrosion inhibitor systems, and related specialty chemicals, • Investigate technical challenges through rapid problem-solving and root cause analysis, • Optimize manufacturing and mixing processes for successful production scale-up, • Conduct basic stability studies and interpret results, • Collaborate closely with manufacturing to troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve manufacturing processes, • Work with external laboratories to design testing programs, interpret results, and refine formulations based on testing outcomes, • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and technical documentation, • Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to the R&D team and leadership, • Support product validation and scale-up from laboratory through commercial manufacturing, • Assist with regulatory activities involving agencies such as the EPA, USDA, and other applicable regulatory bodies, • Review scientific literature, patents, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for innovation What We're Looking For • Bachelor's or Master's in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline, • 3+ years of industrial R&D experience (advanced degrees may substitute for some experience), • Experience in a manufacturing environment, with an understanding of how laboratory formulations translate to commercial production, • Strong background in wet chemistry and formulation development, • Experience working with aqueous systems and organic salts, • Experience developing or optimizing manufacturing and mixing processes, • Strong laboratory documentation and technical writing skills, • Excellent experimental design, data analysis, and problem-solving abilities, • Strong communication and collaboration skills, • Startup or high-growth company experience preferred, • Experience with fire protection chemistry, specialty chemicals, industrial formulations, agricultural chemistry, or related industries is highly desirable What Makes This Role Unique This isn't a role where you'll spend years making incremental changes to a single product.
