A Day in the Life of the Fiber Splicing Technician I, II, or III: The Fiber Splicing Technician is responsible for prepping and fusing single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables for inside and outside plant construction, performing fiber panel and splice case audits, and placing mid-sheath splices. This position plays a vital role in ensuring quality and timely deliveries of our fiber services to customers. Perform prep and fusion of single-mode or multi-mode fiber optic cables, mainly inside plant, with the ability to learn outside plant. Place and test jumpers in communication cabinets. Properly place mid-sheath splices. Test and troubleshoot fiber using an OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifier and scope. Perform installation and testing of fiber cross connects. Work with Construction Project Managers and Fiber Design to perform splicing as directed. Provide Fiber Design team with detailed reports of field splicing activity. Train on bucket truck operations with supervision.
