Job DescriptionJob Title: Lab TechnicianJob Description This role performs in‑process and finished product testing to verify that materials meet established specifications for quality and purity. Working under limited supervision, the lab technician conducts routine and specialized laboratory analyses, documents results accurately, and supports production and quality teams by ensuring timely release of compliant products. The position offers the opportunity to develop strong laboratory, quality control, and data analysis skills within a collaborative, tight‑knit team environment. Responsibilities • Conduct laboratory tests on in‑process and finished products to support production, pollution control, quality control, and minor research activities., • Test and analyze products, including flour, to determine whether they meet plant specifications prior to release., • Release vessels that meet specifications and promptly report vessels that are out of specification., • Test and analyze production samples and immediately report any uncharacteristic or abnormal results., • Accurately document test results, readings, and observations in logbooks and in TLC (Total Lab Client) or related laboratory information systems., • Prepare and issue certificates of analysis for products as required., • Prepare chemical solutions and reagents for use in laboratory testing and analyses., • Maintain, calibrate, and verify the performance of laboratory equipment and related field instrumentation to ensure reliable test results., • Maintain awareness of and adhere to all FDA, GMP, TTB, USP, EPA, OSHA, and internal standards and guidelines., • Support and comply with all food safety, quality, and legality requirements in daily laboratory operations., • Troubleshoot routine laboratory issues, including equipment, methods, and test results, and escalate concerns as needed., • Work on multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines and prioritizing workload based on production needs., • Collaborate with a small team of lab technicians to ensure timely completion of testing and avoid slowdowns or backlogs in product release., • Perform other related laboratory duties as assigned to support overall plant and quality objectives.Essential Skills, • Ability to work effectively on multiple tasks at the same time while maintaining accuracy and quality., • Strong organizational skills to manage samples, documentation, and testing schedules., • Willingness to assume new responsibilities and learn new laboratory methods and procedures., • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to document results and interact with production and quality teams., • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills in a laboratory or technical environment., • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate testing, documentation, and compliance with procedures., • Ability to understand and comply with plant GMP and personnel practice requirements., • Computer skills sufficient to operate and navigate laboratory instrument operation programs and data entry systems., • Demonstrated math skills to perform calculations associated with laboratory testing and solution preparation., • High school diploma or GED required., • 2 or 4 year science degree preferred (such as Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field)., • 2+ years of work experience in a quality assurance laboratory preferred., • Open to entry‑level candidates with a Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline is highly desirable., • Experience working in a quality assurance lab environment is preferred., • Background in quality, chemistry, biology, or quality control is beneficial., • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills., • Ability to work effectively as part of a small, collaborative laboratory team., • Flexibility to work a 2nd shift schedule and adjust hours when needed within the team’s shift‑swap practices., • Motivation to grow into a permanent role with opportunities for pay advancement.Work Environment This position operates in a laboratory environment within a production facility on a 2nd shift schedule. The lab technician works with a small team of approximately 5–10 lab technicians, fostering a close, supportive, and tight‑knit culture. The role involves regular use of laboratory equipment, field instrumentation, and computer‑based systems such as TLC (Total Lab Client) and instrument operation programs. Work follows strict FDA, GMP, TTB, USP, EPA, OSHA, and internal safety and quality standards, with a strong emphasis on food safety, product quality, and regulatory compliance. The team works on set shifts but maintains flexibility to swap or pick up hours to accommodate time off when needed. The environment focuses on collaboration, reliability, and timely testing to prevent backlogs and ensure products move efficiently through the plant. Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Buffalo, NY.
