Job DescriptionJob Title: Warehouse Material Handler / Warehouse AssociateJob Description The Warehouse Material Handler is responsible for safely receiving, storing, and distributing building materials in a busy warehouse environment. This role supports both residential and commercial supply operations, handling concrete products, bricks, lumber, and a wide range of other construction materials. You will perform hands-on, physical work, ensure accurate order fulfillment, and follow established safety and inventory control procedures to keep operations running smoothly. Responsibilities • Load, unload, and move materials manually and using warehouse equipment, including forklifts, pallets, and push carts., • Pick and verify customer orders using pick tickets, ensuring that order numbers and item details match accurately., • Work with a large product mix of 500+ items scattered throughout the warehouse, maintaining strong attention to detail in locating and selecting materials., • Shrink wrap and band pallets to secure materials for safe transport and delivery., • Handle heavy building materials such as concrete bags, bricks, and lumber with proper lifting techniques and team support., • Assemble pallets for both small and large orders, including building skids with up to 700 bricks when required., • Perform inbound and outbound material handling activities, including receiving shipments and preparing orders for dispatch., • Maintain accurate bin locations and inventory organization, aiming for approximately 90% location accuracy., • Help organize and safeguard warehouse inventory, which is valued at high levels and must be stored and handled carefully., • Operate effectively in a small warehouse environment that supports both commercial and residential customers., • Assist with shutdown procedures and operational changes as needed to support branch efficiency and safety., • Operate forklifts for approximately 25–30% of daily tasks, following all safety and operational guidelines., • Support general warehouse duties, including cleaning, organizing, and material staging, for the remainder of the workday., • Use ladders to safely access and retrieve materials stored in elevated rack locations., • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 70 pounds, using team lifting for heavier loads to prevent injury., • Build, move, and position pallets and large material loads throughout the warehouse and lumber yard., • Perform repeated physical tasks such as bending, lifting, climbing, and walking throughout the shift., • Work collaboratively with team members on the warehouse floor and in the office to meet customer and operational needs., • Follow all safety guidelines, use provided personal protective equipment, and contribute to a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.Essential Skills, • Previous warehouse or material handling experience preferred, with exposure to picking, packing, shipping, and receiving activities., • Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts safely; prior forklift experience is a plus., • Experience with order picking, palletizing, and general labor tasks in a warehouse or lumber yard environment., • Capability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 70 pounds, bending, climbing, and repetitive movements., • Strong attention to detail when matching order numbers, verifying pick tickets, and maintaining accurate bin locations., • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of building materials, including concrete bags, bricks, lumber, and related products., • Reliable teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with a small, close-knit warehouse and office staff., • Commitment to following safety procedures and using personal protective equipment as required.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working in a lumber yard or construction material supply environment., • Comfort operating in a small branch setting with multiple racks and mixed indoor and outdoor tasks., • Basic understanding of inventory organization and bin location systems., • Willingness to adapt to operational changes, shutdown procedures, and evolving branch needs., • Ability to learn company-specific processes for pick tickets, pallet assembly, and material staging.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a small branch warehouse of approximately 60,000 square feet, with 7–8 racks and a lumber yard where trucks are regularly loaded with materials. The facility uses sensor lighting and often operates with garage doors open, providing a mix of indoor and semi-outdoor working conditions. You will work alongside a small team of about 8 employees on the floor and 4 in the office, creating a close-knit, collaborative environment. Closed-toe shoes are required, steel-toe boots are not mandatory, and shorts are acceptable; jeans are recommended due to the nature of the materials handled. Personal protective equipment such as safety gloves and safety vests is provided. A break room is available for rest periods, and daily work involves regular use of pallets, push carts, ladders, and forklifts in an active, physically engaging setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $19.50/hr.
