Job Description Job Title: Inventory Technician / Material Handler . Job Description This role supports a large service and repair shop for compressors, valves, and other rotating equipment by managing inventory and materials throughout the facility. The inventory technician moves manufactured parts using forklifts, overhead cranes, and manual handling, oversees shipping and receiving through computer-based inventory systems, and organizes the shop to ensure efficient workflow for skilled trades colleagues. This position reports directly to operations leadership and focuses on material handling and inventory management rather than general janitorial or helper duties. . Responsibilities • Move manufactured parts and components throughout the shop using sit-down and stand-up forklifts, overhead cranes, and manual handling when appropriate., • Perform shipping and receiving activities, including verifying incoming and outgoing materials, preparing documentation such as bills of lading, and ensuring accuracy of shipments., • Manage inventory control and inventory management processes using computer-based systems, including ERP platforms such as SAP and Oracle., • Maintain organized storage areas and material flow to support machinists, mechanics, and other skilled trades, ensuring parts are easy to locate and access., • Monitor stock levels for valves, compressors, pumps, and other rotating equipment components, and communicate needs to operations as required., • Update inventory records promptly and accurately to reflect material movements, receipts, and shipments., • Operate overhead cranes safely to move larger and heavier components in a heavy industrial, rotating equipment shop environment., • Identify opportunities to improve shop organization and material handling efficiency, and take initiative to implement practical solutions., • Collaborate closely with team members across machining, mechanical, QC, and material handling functions to support a cohesive, team-based workflow., • Plan ahead for upcoming jobs and projects by staging materials and organizing parts to minimize downtime and delays., • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while working with heavy equipment and rotating machinery components., • Support a clean, orderly, and efficient work area that aligns with the standards of a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility. . Essential Skills • At least 5 years of material handling and inventory experience in a manufacturing setting., • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working around compressors, valves, pumps, and other rotating equipment., • Proficient forklift operation, including sit-down forklifts up to approximately 17K capacity and stand-up forklifts., • Hands-on experience with inventory control, inventory management, and shipping and receiving in a heavy industrial environment., • Ability to prepare and process bills of lading and other shipping documentation accurately., • Experience using ERP and computer-based inventory systems, ideally including platforms such as SAP and Oracle., • Familiarity with overhead crane operation in a shop handling larger, heavier components., • Demonstrated high initiative and ability to work autonomously while supporting a team-based environment., • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail in managing parts, materials, and documentation., • Ability to plan ahead, anticipate needs, and maintain foresight in organizing materials for upcoming work. . Work Environment The role is based in a brand-new, state-of-the-art shop that is large, air-conditioned, and highly organized. The position follows a standard schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the flexibility to move to 10-hour shifts and add Saturdays during busy periods. The environment is heavy industrial, with bigger, heavier components and rotating equipment such as compressors, turbines, pumps, and motors. Required attire includes steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses, reflecting the safety-focused nature of the shop. . . . . . . . . . . Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Houston, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
