Job DescriptionJob Title: Pump TechnicianJob Description The Pump Technician will perform low- to mid-level mechanical work on a wide range of industrial pumps, including vertical, horizontal, split-case, submersible, BB2, BB4, and BB5 units. You will assist with overhauls and repairs in the shop, as well as travel to customer sites 25%–50% of the time to complete repairs, swaps, and installations. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, proficient use of precision measuring tools, and the ability to read blueprints and schematics. Responsibilities • Service, repair, and overhaul vertical, horizontal, split-case, submersible, BB2, BB4, BB5, and other pump types in the shop and in the field., • Assist the Pump Mechanic Supervisor with complete pump overhauls, repairs, and assemblies, ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards., • Perform field work 25%–50% of the time at ports, barges, and refineries, including pump repairs, swaps, and installations., • Use measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, and OD and ID micrometers to inspect, diagnose, and verify pump components and tolerances., • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to plan and execute repair and assembly work., • Conduct mechanical troubleshooting on pumps, motors, and related equipment to identify issues and recommend corrective actions., • Carry out mechanical assembly and disassembly of pumps and associated components using hand tools and appropriate equipment., • Perform general mechanical tasks such as oil changes, adjustments, and routine maintenance on pumps and related systems., • Apply laser alignment techniques to ensure proper alignment of pumps, motors, and drives when required., • Work safely in shop and field environments, following SDS guidance and all applicable safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment., • Maintain and use personal tools and shop tools properly, keeping work areas organized in a busy, parts-heavy shop., • Collaborate with other pump mechanics, machinists, and team members to complete jobs efficiently and meet customer expectations., • Demonstrate reliability and a long-term career mindset by taking ownership of tasks and supporting a stable, high-performing team.Essential Skills, • At least 3+ years of pump mechanic experience working with industrial pumps., • Strong experience with vertical turbine pumps and their service, repair, and overhaul., • Mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, repair, and troubleshooting., • Proficient use of measuring tools, including measuring tape, calipers, and OD and ID micrometers., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings., • Experience performing repairs, swaps, and installations in field environments such as ports, barges, and refineries., • TWIC card for access to secure port and industrial locations., • Ownership and regular use of personal hand tools suitable for pump mechanical work., • Knowledge of mechanical repair practices, including disassembly, assembly, and alignment of rotating equipment., • Capability to work safely with SDS guidance and follow established safety procedures in shop and field settings.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Previous field experience performing mechanical work at industrial sites., • Laser alignment experience for pumps, motors, and rotating equipment., • Knowledge of SDS (Safety Data Sheets) and safe handling of materials and chemicals., • Understanding of motors, drives, and VFDs and how they interact with pump systems., • Leadership experience or demonstrated ability to mentor others and take initiative on jobs., • Interest in building a long-term career and staying with a company for an extended period., • Experience with troubleshooting mechanical issues in complex pump systems., • Familiarity with general labor tasks related to pump maintenance, including oil changes and component replacement.Why Work Here? The current shop is non-air-conditioned and tight on space, with plans to move to a larger facility in 2027. The day shift team includes one manual machinist and two pump mechanics, providing a close-knit, collaborative atmosphere. Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., averaging 40–50 hours per week, with the expectation of increased overtime as more contracts are signed. Approximately 25%–50% of your time will be spent in the field at ports, barges, and refineries, performing installations and repairs in industrial settings. The required dress code includes steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses, reflecting a safety-focused environment where proper protective equipment is essential. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Channelview, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
