Job Description Traveling Roofing Laborer – Historic Government Projects Jaxon Construction, Inc. is hiring dependable, detail-oriented Roofing Laborers to work on historic government construction projects throughout the United States. This position is ideal for experienced roofers who take pride in quality craftsmanship and understand that historic roofing requires patience, precision, and respect for the original structure. Our projects may include historic government buildings, military facilities, national parks, cemeteries, and other federally protected properties. About the Position As a Traveling Roofing Laborer, you will assist with installing, repairing, restoring, and replacing historic roofing systems. You must be able to follow instructions, work carefully, and complete each task according to project drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and historic preservation standards. Travel is required because projects are located nationwide. Per diem and approved travel expenses are paid by the company. Roofing Experience Required Applicants should be experienced with several of the following roofing systems: • Metal roofing, including standing-seam and custom-fabricated components, • Wood shake and wood shingle roofing, • Asphalt shingle roofing, • Slate roofing, • Clay tile roofing, • Historic flashing, trim, valleys, ridges, and roof-edge details, • Sheet-metal fabrication, bending, cutting, and installation, • Roof removal, repair, replacement, and waterproofing Experience preserving, salvaging, documenting, and reinstalling historic roofing materials is strongly preferred. Job Responsibilities • Install roofing materials accurately and according to plans and specifications, • Assist with the careful removal and preservation of historic roofing materials, • Measure, cut, fabricate, and install roofing components, • Complete detailed flashing, trim, ridge, valley, and waterproofing work, • Protect historic buildings and surrounding surfaces from damage, • Identify damaged, unsuitable, or mismatched roofing materials, • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas, • Follow daily instructions from the Lead Roofer, Superintendent, or Project Manager, • Take progress photographs and assist with project documentation when requested, • Follow all fall-protection, ladder-safety, PPE, and government jobsite requirements, • Assist with siding, gutters, exterior sheet metal, and related exterior work as needed, • Correct deficiencies and complete punch-list work promptly, • Travel and work extended project assignments when required Required Qualifications • Roofing or exterior construction experience, • Working knowledge of metal, wood shake, asphalt shingle, slate, or clay tile roofing, • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship, • Ability to follow drawings, specifications, and detailed instructions, • Ability to work safely at heights and in changing weather conditions, • Ability to lift and carry roofing materials, tools, and equipment, • Willingness and ability to travel nationwide, • Dependable transportation to the assigned departure or meeting location, • Valid driver’s license preferred, • Ability to pass required background checks and obtain access to government facilities, • Real ID or valid passport preferred Preferred Qualifications • Previous experience on historic preservation or government construction projects, • Experience with hand tools, power tools, metal brakes, and sheet-metal equipment, • OSHA, fall-protection, First Aid/CPR, or other construction safety training, • Ability to read construction drawings and roofing details, • Bilingual in English and Spanish Ideal Candidate You may be a strong fit if you: • Take pride in precise, high-quality roofing work, • Understand that historic materials must be handled carefully, • Show up on time and ready to work, • Follow instructions without cutting corners, • Respect government property, jobsite rules, and security requirements, • Work well with supervisors and other crew members, • Are willing to perform roofing and related exterior work, • Maintain a professional attitude while traveling, • Put safety, quality, and craftsmanship first Travel and Per Diem This is a traveling position with projects located throughout the United States.
