Job Description Senior Accountant Confidential Employer | West Hollywood, CA Help Build the Future of Accounting A fast-growing, privately held consumer products company headquartered in West Hollywood is looking for an exceptional Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. This isn't a traditional accounting role. We're looking for someone who genuinely loves accounting, enjoys solving complex problems, embraces technology, and wants to help build a modern accounting department. You'll work directly with the Financial Controller as a trusted business partner, helping transform Finance through automation, AI, continuous improvement, stronger internal controls, and best-in-class accounting practices. In addition to supporting the month-end close, you'll own the Accounts Receivable function while helping maintain strong cash flow and an accurate customer receivables portfolio. Our current goal is to maintain a Business Day 5 (BD5) month-end close, with a long-term vision of achieving a Business Day 1 (BD1) close through smarter processes and automation. What You'll Be Doing Month-End Close & Financial Reporting • Lead and support the monthly and year-end close process, ensuring financial information is accurate and delivered on time., • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations., • Prepare and maintain detailed balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules., • Maintain the general ledger and ensure financial accuracy., • Prepare monthly financial statements and perform variance analysis., • Reconcile bank accounts, prepaid expenses, accruals, fixed assets, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts., • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies proactively., • Support our Business Day 5 (BD5) close while helping build the processes needed to achieve a Business Day 1 (BD1) close. Accounts Receivable & Accounting Operations • Own the company's Accounts Receivable function, maintaining an accurate and healthy in-house AR portfolio., • Post customer payments and deposits accurately to customer invoices in NetSuite., • Monitor customer accounts, investigate payment discrepancies, and resolve unapplied cash., • Partner with the Customer Experience and Sales teams to ensure timely collections and account resolution., • Manage in-house customer credit accounts while maintaining strong customer relationships., • Work closely with third-party to manage customers financing and payment terms., • Monitor aging reports and proactively identify delinquent accounts., • Recommend process improvements that strengthen cash collections and reduce outstanding receivables., • Own the Accounts Payable process, ensuring vendor invoices are processed accurately, payments are made timely, and appropriate supporting documentation is maintained., • Review vendor invoices, payment runs, and account coding to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies., • Partner with vendors and internal departments to resolve accounting issues., • Ensure accounting records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready., • Assist with inventory accounting and cost accounting activities. Process Improvement & AI Innovation While maintaining accurate financial records is the primary responsibility of this role, we're committed to continuously improving how accounting gets done. • Identify manual and repetitive accounting processes suitable for automation., • Leverage AI and AI agents to improve reconciliations, reporting, workflows, and data analysis., • Recommend process improvements that strengthen internal controls while reducing manual work., • Partner with leadership to implement automation initiatives that improve efficiency and accelerate the month-end close., • Lead your first automation initiative by streamlining the company's cash deposit process, creating the foundation for future accounting automation projects. Financial Analysis • Analyze financial results and investigate variances., • Assist with budgeting and forecasting., • Prepare reports that provide meaningful financial insights to leadership., • Identify trends and recommend improvements to business processes. Audit & Internal Controls • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation., • Assist with annual financial audits., • Help strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies. Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required., • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience., • Experience managing the month-end close., • Experience managing the full Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable cycles., • Strong understanding of GAAP., • NetSuite experience is highly preferred., • Experience with inventory accounting and cost accounting., • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and working with large data sets., • Experience preparing financial statements and account reconciliations., • Experience supporting annual audits and maintaining strong internal controls., • Experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, etc.) to improve accounting processes is highly preferred., • Experience with B2B trade credit/payment platforms is a plus., • Experience with Bill.com is a plus., • Experience with Rippling is a plus., • Consumer products, manufacturing, or inventory accounting experience is preferred.
