Job DescriptionJob Title: Commercial HVAC TechnicianJob Description This role supports a large federal training facility by maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and operating a wide range of commercial HVAC equipment in a mission-critical environment that requires 24/7 facility support. The position is open to both HVAC Technician I and HVAC Technician II level professionals and offers the opportunity to work under the guidance of a Senior HVAC Technician while contributing to preventative maintenance programs and corrective repair activities throughout the campus. Responsibilities • Perform preventative maintenance on commercial HVAC systems and equipment in accordance with established schedules and procedures., • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC mechanical and control system issues to ensure reliable operation., • Maintain and service VRV/VRF systems, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, rooftop units (RTUs), air handling units (AHUs), split systems, and related commercial HVAC equipment., • Respond promptly to equipment failures and perform corrective maintenance to minimize downtime and maintain facility operations., • Complete work orders, maintenance records, and all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner., • Assist with equipment inspections, testing, and performance evaluations to verify proper operation and identify improvement opportunities., • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and facility operating procedures while performing daily tasks., • Participate in an on-call rotation as staffing levels and operational requirements dictate to support 24/7 facility needs., • Work collaboratively with maintenance technicians, electricians, and other facility personnel to support campus-wide operations., • Read and interpret equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to support effective troubleshooting and repairs.Essential Skills, • EPA Universal Certification obtained prior to start., • Hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC systems., • Working knowledge of HVAC electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems., • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation., • Experience with VRV/VRF systems in a commercial environment., • Chiller maintenance and repair experience., • Experience working with cooling towers, rooftop units (RTUs), air handling units (AHUs), split systems, and large commercial HVAC systems., • Possession of a REAL ID or valid passport to meet facility access requirements.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Previous experience in institutional, government, industrial, healthcare, data center, or campus environments., • NATE, CATE, or equivalent industry certification., • HVAC trade school education or formal technical training., • Familiarity with boilers and associated systems., • Comfort working under the guidance of a Senior HVAC Technician and within a structured maintenance program., • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary maintenance and facility teams.Why Work Here? Work Environment The position is based at a large, occupied federal training facility with a mix of indoor mechanical rooms, rooftops, utility areas, and campus-wide buildings. Technicians work primarily on day shift from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with participation in an on-call rotation as operational needs require. The role involves working around commercial HVAC equipment such as chillers, boilers, VRV/VRF systems, cooling towers, RTUs, AHUs, and split systems in both indoor and outdoor settings, including elevated rooftop locations. The facility operates continuously and requires a strong focus on safety, adherence to environmental and operational procedures, and comfort working in mechanical spaces, utility areas, and varying weather conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Charleston, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $33.16 - $38.00/hr.
