Job Description Position Title: Temp Housekeeper I (IL) Department: Environmental Services Exempt Status: Non-exempt Supervisor: Director of Environmental Services GENERAL SUMMARY: A unique opportunity exists to join a team in creating a vibrant senior learning community on the campus of Purchase College, State University of New York. The residents of this university-based retirement community will be able to enjoy the many amenities of the college including the renowned Neuberger Museum of Art, the Performing Arts Center, the academic and athletic facilities, and the park-like campus. They will be able to enjoy all these benefits while living in a village designed specifically for their interests and needs. As part of the Purchase College community, Broadview residents will enjoy both formal and informal programming and collaborative opportunities designed to promote intergenerational engagement with members of the college community, ranging from classes and mentoring to providing employment opportunities for students. Broadview will offer the full continuum of services, inclusive of Independent Living, Assisted Living, Enhanced Assisted Living, and Memory Care. Position Summary: The housekeeper is expected to work during the week, some weekends and holidays. The housekeeper is responsible for cleaning and servicing interior villas, apartments, common spaces, kitchens, bathrooms or other areas as assigned; high and low dusting, damp wiping horizontal and vertical surfaces such as chairs, fronts of cabinets, stands, lamps, telephones, windowsills, coffee tables, various ledges and other counter tops except for all technical equipment including computers. Arrange furniture in a neat and orderly fashion. Clean and disinfect bathtubs, sinks, toilets, urinals, clean and polish all mirrors and metal brass, aluminum metals, glass panels in doors, cleaning linens and making beds; dry mop or vacuum floors, other related duties as assigned. This position is a temporary position. Essential Job Functions: • Performs routine cleaning and related service work., • Demonstrates knowledge of Seven Basic Cleaning steps., • Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate chemical use to meet department standards (know chemical, its proper use, has appropriately labeled and stored, etc.), • Practices proper methods of Infection Control in conjunction with cleaning procedures (changing of mop water, proper use of cleaning cloth and other equipment, etc.), • Has knowledge of applicable departmental policies and procedures and uses when appropriate., • Environmental Services Staff may access areas in which medications are stored for cleaning purposes only under the direct supervision of licensed personnel who are allowed access to medications., • Demonstrates proficiency in job related skills., • Maintains closet, housekeeping cart and cleaning equipment in clean orderly and good working condition., • Adheres to departmental dress code and practices personal hygiene., • Meets or exceeds departments standards of quality as evidenced by quality control inspections, and customer feedback., • Participates in staff meetings and attends all mandatory in-services., • Works effectively as a member of the team., • Shows initiative in expanding job-related skills., • Demonstrates positive customer service skills., • Demonstrates commitment to providing a high quality environment for resident care., • Communicates issues/concerns to Supervisor/Director as needed., • Performs other duties as assigned. experience in an environmental service., • Ability to read and write., • High School diploma or equivalent experience., • The ability to speak, read and comprehend the English language., • Must be motivational, energetic with a passion for serving others., • Must possess patience and sensitivity to others’ needs; ability to work with community groups., • Good communication skills (oral and written), • Good inter-department communication and teamwork skills, • Lifts and carries up to 50 lbs. with assistance occasionally., • Pushes and pulls up to 50 lbs. with assistance occasionally., • Climbs, reaches, bends and twists occasionally., • Reaches, bends and twists occasionally., • Sits, stands and walks frequently., • Light work – exerts up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects., • Routinely process written information as in policies and procedures, posted notices, instruction materials, regulations, etc., • Routinely complete forms and other written documentation., • Routinely observe resident actions, gestures, and facial expressions., • Routinely recognizes auditory call signals, emergency alarms, wander monitoring system signals, soft voices of the elderly and verbal communication within the workplace., • Routinely observes odors relevant to resident medical and personal care conditions, and those undesirable in the environment., • Routinely interacts with individuals highly dependent on vocal communication – residents, family members, vendors, and co-workers – in circumstances requiring audible and intelligible vocalizations., • Routinely interact with individuals (residents, family members, staff, etc.) who may be discourteous, tactless, demanding, verbally and/or physically threatening or abusive, angry or hostile, emotionally vulnerable or mentally ill, vulgar, mean-natured., • Routinely called upon to control own emotions and behaviors to protect residents’ rights and to respond professionally with respect and dignity., • Individuals must be able to use protective equipment and take proper precautions and emergency measures., • Position is considered at minimal risk of exposure to infections through close contact with residents; minimal hazards associated with chemicals used for general cleaning and disinfecting throughout the community; and some craft materials/supplies. Salary Range for this opportunity is $19.00 per hour.
