As a key component of our App Platform, Unified Storage enables developers to build innovative applications using a Kubernetes-inspired Operator pattern to interact with data directly. The Opportunity We build Tempo, the open-source distributed tracing backend behind Grafana Cloud Traces and Grafana Enterprise Traces (GET). Tempo makes it easy to search traces, generate metrics from spans, and connect tracing data with logs, metrics, and profiles across the Grafana stack. 2026 is an inflection point for Tempo. After a major architectural upgrade and the launch of TraceQL metrics, we are shifting from foundational work to product and operational excellence, and evolving Tempo from a SaaS database into a platform that powers Grafana’s next generation of observability products (App Observability, Asserts, Traces Drilldown, and AI-driven assistants). We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer - SRE to help us support our highest value Grafana Cloud customers by increasing the reliability of our Cloud databases that are based on Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope. We provide these databases as a SaaS product from AWS, GCP, and Azure across all regions. The SRE team is embedded within the Mimir, Loki, and Tempo squads and focuses on ensuring that Grafana Cloud’s database products deliver exceptional reliability for our highest-SLA customers. We use Go, but if you have familiarity with Python, Java, C++, Rust or similar then that translates well, • Some experience with delivering projects from gathering requirements, brainstorming ideas all the way to shipping a product to the customer’s hands in a self-driven way, • Some experience with developing software that runs in the Cloud or some experience with systems engineering, • Experience writing clean, robust, and performant software that is easily maintained by others Compensation & Rewards: In the UK, the compensation range for this role is GBP 103,958 - GBP 124,750. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed throughout the interview process. You'll be joining Crimson, one of Spotted Zebra's AI Augmented Delivery (AAD) Crews - a lean team made up of a Product Manager and two Product Engineers. This is a role for someone who genuinely lives and breathes building for end users. You'll partner directly with your PM to shape and define what gets built, bringing your own product intuition to every conversation, and then go away and execute - owning the build out largely solo, with the support of your crew and subject matter experts in Data Science and Design, and seeing it all the way through to production. No long hand-off chains, no waiting on others to unblock you. Just ownership, momentum, and shipping things that matter.
