Deputy Pub Manager Job Description Job Title Deputy Pub Manager Reports To General Manager Location As Required Role Purpose As Deputy Pub Manager, you will support the General Manager in the successful day-to-day running of the pub, ensuring exceptional customer service, strong financial performance and outstanding operational standards. You will lead by example, inspire and develop the team, and take full responsibility for the venue in the General Managers absence, ensuring the pub operates safely, efficiently and profitably. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Support the General Manager in leading and motivating the pub team. Recruit, train and develop bar staff and supervisors. Conduct inductions and ensure all mandatory training is completed. Coach team members to deliver outstanding customer service. Manage shifts effectively and confidently. Support performance management, appraisals and disciplinary procedures where required. Lead by example and promote a positive working culture. Guest Experience Deliver exceptional customer service at all times. Ensure every guest receives a warm and friendly welcome. Resolve customer complaints quickly and professionally. Build relationships with regular customers and encourage repeat business. Maintain a vibrant, safe and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the venue. Operational Management Support the smooth day-to-day operation of the pub. Manage opening and closing procedures. Ensure all areas of the pub remain clean, organised and well presented. Maintain excellent cellar, bar and back-of-house standards. Ensure equipment is maintained and any maintenance issues are reported promptly. Oversee busy trading periods and ensure smooth service delivery. Financial Responsibilities Support achievement of weekly and monthly sales targets. Assist with rota planning to control labour costs. Complete cash handling, banking and reconciliation procedures accurately. Monitor daily sales performance. Help maximise profitability through effective cost control. Support stock ordering and supplier management. Stock Control Receive and check deliveries. Carry out regular stock counts. Investigate stock discrepancies. Ensure stock rotation and minimise wastage. Maintain accurate cellar management and product quality. Compliance Ensure compliance with Licensing Laws. Promote and enforce Challenge 25 procedures. Maintain Health & Safety and Fire Safety standards. Ensure Food Safety procedures are followed where applicable. Complete all required compliance checks and documentation. Maintain accident, incident and refusal logs. Sales & Business Development Support delivery of company promotions and events. Drive food and drink sales through excellent product knowledge. Encourage upselling across the team. Support local marketing initiatives and social media activity. Help maximise revenue during live sport, entertainment and seasonal events. Skills & Experience Essential Previous supervisory or management experience within a pub, bar or hospitality environment. Strong leadership and people management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. High standards of customer service. Cash handling and financial control experience. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Flexible approach to working evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Desirable Personal Licence Holder (or willingness to obtain). Cellar management experience. Experience with EPOS and hospitality systems. First Aid qualification. Personal Qualities Passionate about hospitality. Positive and enthusiastic attitude. Strong leadership skills.
