JMB18 - Shift Engineer Location: Leeds (Site-Based)Salary: Competitive, up to £48,000 per annum (DOE)Hours: 06:00 – 18:00 / 18:00 – 06:00Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off (2 days & 2 nights)Job Type: PermanentOverview:We are seeking a highly versatile, professional, and self-motivated Shift Engineer to join a fast-paced production environment. This is a hands-on, site-based role supporting the smooth operation of a large-scale facility handling high-volume production.This opportunity is particularly well suited to ex-military engineers and personnel, where discipline, reliability, strong technical aptitude, and a proactive approach are highly valued. In particular, this role would be an excellent fit for ex-Navy Marine Engineers, due to their experience working with complex mechanical and electrical systems, fault finding, and operating in demanding environments.The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic engineering team responsible for maintaining plant machinery, utilities, and site infrastructure. This role requires strong fault-finding ability, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background with an electrical bias, alongside a flexible, can-do attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement.What Is Required: \n\n • Carry out proactive and reactive maintenance on plant machinery, utilities, and site equipment.\n, • Perform fault finding on electrical and mechanical systems.\n, • Work with PLC systems, 3-phase motors, boilers, bearings, and pulleys.\n, • Assist in the implementation and completion of planned preventative maintenance (PPM).\n, • Diagnose and repair faults efficiently to minimise downtime.\n, • Conduct routine daily, weekly, and monthly machinery checks.\n, • Support the smooth running of production by liaising with operational teams.\n, • Follow safe systems of work and maintain high Health & Safety standards.\n, • Assist with risk assessments and ensure compliance with COSHH regulations.\n, • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.\n, • Support engineering team development and assist with training where required.\n, • Attend breakdown call-outs when necessary.\n, • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of all work areas.\n, • Work the defined rotating shift pattern and remain flexible where required.\n\n Desirable Qualifications & Experience: \n\n • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Electrical bias preferred).\n, • Proven experience in a fast-paced production or manufacturing environment.\n, • Experience working with PLC systems and industrial machinery.\n, • Strong mechanical knowledge is essential.\n, • Ex-military engineering background highly desirable, particularly ex-Navy Marine Engineers.\n, • FMCG background is advantageous but not essential.\n\n Additional Requirements: \n\n • Physically fit, as the role may involve heavy lifting.\n, • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.\n, • Ability to work independently and within a team.\n, • Proactive attitude with a focus on continuous improvement.\n, • Good communication skills across all levels of the business.\n\n Additional Benefits: \n\n • Company Pension Scheme\n, • Free Life Assurance\n, • Health & wellbeing support (including 24/7 GP access & EAP)\n, • Discounted gym membership\n, • Career development and progression opportunities\n, • Engineering grading programme\n, • Long service and recognition awards\n, • Ongoing training and development programmes\n, • Free onsite parking\n, • Additional leave benefits (including family-related leave)\n
