Job DescriptionField Service/Repair Technician About Hayes Pump Hayes Pump is the Northeast’s largest industrial, commercial, and municipal pump distributor. We provide pump equipment, repair, maintenance, and field service solutions that keep critical systems operating safely and efficiently. Position Summary Hayes Pump is seeking an experienced Field Service/Repair Technician to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial, industrial, and municipal pumping equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with centrifugal, split-case, and end-suction pumps and the ability to independently evaluate equipment, identify mechanical failures, and complete repairs in both field and shop environments. This position works directly with customers, making professionalism, communication, and a commitment to high-quality service essential. Key Responsibilities • Travel to customer sites to inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair pumps and related equipment., • Diagnose mechanical equipment failures and determine appropriate repair recommendations., • Perform repairs and rebuilds on commercial, industrial, and municipal pumping equipment., • Service centrifugal, split-case, end-suction, and related pump systems., • Support positive-displacement pumps, including rotary lobe, progressive cavity, diaphragm, and metering pumps, as required., • Perform pump start-ups, operational testing, and equipment setup., • Evaluate pump equipment in the shop and document equipment condition, required repairs, and estimated scope of work., • Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble pumps and related equipment., • Communicate technical findings and repair recommendations to customers and internal team members., • Complete service reports, equipment evaluations, and other required documentation using the company’s CRM system., • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours customer support., • Maintain assigned company equipment, specialty tools, and service vehicle., • Maintain a professional appearance and represent Hayes Pump positively at customer locations., • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable OSHA requirements. Required Qualifications • High school diploma or GED., • Minimum three years of experience repairing and servicing industrial, commercial, or municipal pumps., • Strong experience with centrifugal, split-case, and end-suction pumps., • Ability to independently troubleshoot mechanical equipment, identify the cause of failures, and complete repairs with minimal supervision., • Experience working independently in a field service environment., • Experience working directly with customers in a professional service setting., • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills., • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment., • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use email, internet-based systems, and electronic reporting tools., • Ability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule., • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the assigned service territory, including occasional overnight travel., • Legal authorization to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications • Five or more years of commercial, industrial, or municipal pump repair and field service experience., • Five or more years of experience servicing positive-displacement pumps, including rotary lobe, progressive cavity, diaphragm, and metering pumps., • Experience working with municipal water, wastewater, or industrial pumping systems., • Experience servicing Goulds, Xylem, Gorman-Rupp, Fairbanks Morse, Grundfos, Viking, Aurora, or similar pump manufacturers., • Knowledge of electrical controls, wiring, and motor troubleshooting., • OSHA 10 certification., • Technical school, trade school, apprenticeship, military mechanical training, or equivalent hands-on mechanical training. Technicians are responsible for providing their standard daily-use tools. Specialty tools required for specific applications are provided by Hayes Pump. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods., • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds., • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, climb, and work in confined spaces., • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic tools, and mechanical equipment., • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment., • Ability to work around operating machinery and industrial equipment. Work Environment • Work is performed in the Hayes Pump repair shop and at customer locations., • Customer locations may include commercial facilities, industrial plants, municipal water and wastewater facilities, mechanical rooms, and other active work environments., • Regular travel throughout New Jersey is required, with potential expansion into Connecticut and other areas of the Northeast., • Travel may involve driving up to two hours each way., • Initial travel requirements are approximately 10%–20% but may increase to 80%–90% based on workload, customer demand, and territory needs., • Some overnight travel is required, with accommodations provided when appropriate., • The typical workday may begin at approximately 5:30 a.m. to allow for travel, with standard customer-site hours generally running from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., • Overtime, early starts, after-hours work, and rotating on-call coverage may be required., • Required use of PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, hard hats, and safety-toe footwear, as applicable. Pre-Employment Requirements • Successful completion of a motor vehicle record review., • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company insurability requirements., • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card.
