NYJTL is the largest provider of youth tennis and education programs in the nation, providing services in 100 unique sites across all five boroughs while reaching nearly 90,000 kids. In addition, NYJTL designed, funded (with NYC), built and operates the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning in the South Bronx. All NYJTL community tennis and after school programs are offered at no cost to its participants. The mission of NYJTL is to develop the character of young people through tennis and education for a lifetime of success on and off the court. It believes life skills gained through tennis, academics, healthy living, and character development are a catalyst for long-term achievement. Position Summary: The After-School Enrichment Teacher is a certified New York City teacher who designs and leads high-level, academically enriching after-school activities at the discretion of the school principal. This role focuses on advanced, project-based and specialty programs such as standardized test preparation, theater, visual or performing arts, project-based learning, and other enrichment offerings that extend and deepen the school-day curriculum. This is a part-time, after-school position, ideal for current NYC teachers seeking to provide targeted, high-impact instruction beyond the regular school day. Core Responsibilities: Program & Curriculum Design • Design and implement rigorous, standards-aligned units and lesson plans for after-school enrichment (e.g., state test prep, theater productions, arts intensives, PBL units, advanced literacy or math labs)., • Align all activities with school priorities and goals as set by the principal and aligned with DYCD/COMPASS-SONYC frameworks., • Develop sequential, project-based learning experiences that promote critical thinking, creativity, and student ownership of learning., • Integrate social-emotional learning, collaboration, and student leadership into all activities. Instruction & Student Engagement • Provide high-quality, differentiated instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners and grade levels., • Establish clear expectations, routines, and positive behavior supports consistent with school-wide norms., • Build strong, respectful relationships with students to encourage engagement, persistence, and pride in their work., • Adjust pacing, strategies, and supports based on student data, feedback, and observed needs. Collaboration & School Alignment • Work under the direction of the site director, implementing activities and program areas prioritized by school leadership., • Coordinate with other after-school staff to align after-school work with the school-day program., • Participate in required meetings, planning sessions, and professional development related to the after-school program., • Communicate student progress, needs, and program updates to the principal and program leadership as requested. Safety, Documentation & Compliance • Ensure active supervision and safety of students at all times, following school, agency, and DYCD policies., • Support accurate attendance, sign-in/out, and any required program documentation., • Maintain an organized, safe, and inclusive learning environment and care for all materials, equipment, and instructional resources. Qualifications: Required • Current, active New York City Department of Education teaching certification., • Current NYC public school teacher in good standing., • Nomination/approval from the school principal to serve in this after-school role., • Availability to work up to three (3) days per week after school, for a total of up to nine (9) hours per week., • Demonstrated success in classroom instruction, including planning, delivering, and assessing rigorous lessons., • Experience designing or leading advanced or enrichment activities (e.g., test prep, arts, STEM, theater, PBL, clubs)., • Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills. Preferred • Experience with DYCD-funded or COMPASS/SONYC after-school programs., • Demonstrated experience in at least one enrichment specialty area (e.g., standardized test preparation, theater/arts, STEM, project-based learning)., • Familiarity with integrating social-emotional learning and youth development practices into academic and enrichment settings., • Recommendation from your school's principal Job Type: Part-Time Monday – Friday up to 15 hours total per week (specific days/hours set in coordination with the principal and program schedule).
