Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball Charter School - Bronx, NY 10461 Salary Range $100,000.00 - $140,000.00 Salary/year Position Type Full Time Education Level 4 Year Degree Category Education The Director of Facilities is the building operations and facilities leader at EMNRBS who is primarily responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, safety, cleanliness, appearance, and functional readiness of the school building and campus. This position requires a deep contextual understanding of facilities management, building operations, preventive maintenance, custodial management, safety and compliance requirements, vendor coordination, budget management, emergency response, and the facilities systems needed to support uninterrupted teaching and learning. The role requires strong leadership, sound judgment, excellent organization, a customer service mindset, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced school environment. Reporting to EMNRBS' CEO, Executive Director, and/or Director of Operations, this full-time, year-round, non-instructional leadership position will work in close collaboration with the School Leadership Team, security staff, custodial personnel, maintenance staff, outside vendors, and school-based teams to maintain a high-quality educational environment that is clean, safe, code-compliant, welcoming, and ready for instruction each day. Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, safety, and appearance of all school facilities, classrooms, offices, common areas, athletic spaces, and campus areas. Monitor and maintain building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, roofing, fire suppression, mechanical systems, access systems, security hardware, and emergency lighting. Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules, routine inspections, work orders, repairs, and emergency maintenance responses to minimize instructional disruption. Supervise custodial, maintenance, and facilities personnel, including developing work schedules, conducting evaluations, coordinating daily assignments, and training staff on safety procedures. Develop and monitor daily, weekly, monthly, and annual cleaning schedules to ensure classrooms, offices, bathrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and common areas meet cleanliness standards. Monitor inventory, order custodial supplies, cleaning materials, equipment, tools, furniture, maintenance equipment, and other facility-related assets. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, Fire Code, Health Department requirements, Building Code, environmental regulations, ADA accessibility requirements, and other applicable safety and facilities standards. Coordinate annual inspections, maintain documentation for compliance audits, support emergency preparedness planning, and coordinate facility-related emergency response procedures. Coordinate outside contractors, obtain quotes, review work for quality and completion, and schedule repairs or projects in ways that minimize disruption to teaching and learning. Manage service contracts including HVAC, elevators, pest control, waste removal, landscaping, snow removal, security systems, and fire alarm systems. Develop annual maintenance plans, support capital improvement planning, recommend facility upgrades, monitor building life-cycle replacement schedules, and assist with summer renovation projects. Develop and monitor the annual facilities budget, approve supply purchases, track maintenance expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and prepare budget reports for school leadership. Work collaboratively with school security personnel to support building access systems, door hardware, visitor management procedures, after-hours building access, and safe building operations. Coordinate facility setup and breakdown for school events, athletic competitions, parent meetings, professional development, community events, graduation ceremonies, and summer programming. Implement energy conservation initiatives, monitor utility usage, coordinate recycling efforts, and promote environmentally responsible facility practices. Foster a culture of accountability, customer service, responsiveness, safety, and continuous improvement within the facilities and custodial functions. Performs other related duties as assigned, including, and not limited to: o Activities that may occur during the course of a normal school day, such as: emergency maintenance response, safety inspections, daily building readiness, custodial coordination, vendor visits, and support for uninterrupted instruction. o Activities that may occur after/off the school day, such as: school events, athletic competitions, parent meetings, professional development, community events, graduation ceremonies, summer programming, and urgent facilities issues outside normal working hours. One of the main tenants that serves as a basis of effective facilities leadership at EMNRBS is that of maintaining a safe, clean, functional, code-compliant, and instruction-ready building environment on a consistent and reliable basis. With this in mind, the Director of Facilities may be evaluated on the following domains that support formal performance feedback and accountability: • Building Operations and Preventive Maintenance: Focuses on the leader's ability to maintain building systems, complete preventive maintenance, resolve work orders, and reduce emergency maintenance incidents., • Custodial Management and Building Readiness: Assesses the leader's ability to maintain cleanliness standards, supervise custodial work, monitor supplies, and ensure classrooms and common areas are ready for instruction., • Safety, Compliance and Emergency Response: Evaluates the leader's ability to maintain safe, code-compliant facilities, complete required inspections, maintain documentation, and support emergency response procedures., • Vendor, Contractor and Project Management: Focuses on the leader's ability to manage vendors, contractors, service contracts, facility projects, quotes, repairs, and project completion., • Budget, Inventory and Asset Management: Evaluates the leader's ability to manage the facilities budget, track expenses, maintain inventories, monitor assets, and identify cost-saving opportunities., • Professional Responsibilities: Assesses the leader's professional conduct, responsiveness, supervision of facilities staff, customer service orientation, and alignment with EMNRBS' mission and expectations. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Building Operations, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of facilities management experience. Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience. Knowledge of building systems, preventive maintenance planning, facilities operations, emergency response coordination, school safety procedures, and building systems troubleshooting. Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, time management, vendor negotiation, budget management, and customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, supervise maintenance and custodial personnel, and respond to facility emergencies outside normal working hours when necessary. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and work order management systems. Preferred qualifications include school facilities experience, NYC School Construction Authority or DOE experience, OSHA certification, EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification, Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), and NYC Fire Safety Director Certification where applicable. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, walk throughout multiple floors daily, climb ladders, and work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
