Assistant Gardener \n\n • £13.47 per hour\n, • Location: Dartmouth\n, • Job Type: Full-time (37 hours per week, flexible working required over five days in seven)\n\n Join our dedicated gardening and grounds team as an Assistant Gardener. This role involves a variety of seasonal duties that contribute to the maintenance and beautification of our local environment. \n Day-to-day of the role: \n\n • Cutting and maintaining lawns and grass areas using various machines, including pedestrian operated, tractors, ride-on mowers, strimmer's, and brush cutters.\n, • Maintaining hedges, pruning shrubs, roses, and climbers.\n, • Upkeep of shrub and herbaceous borders including weeding, staking, pruning, and replanting as necessary.\n, • Leaf-clearing, litter-picking, and maintenance of garden features.\n, • Engaging in basic arboricultural activities, including stacking and chipping woody waste.\n, • Applying chemical sprays and fertilisers where necessary.\n, • Participating in greenhouse and nursery practices such as seed sowing, watering, propagation, and potting.\n, • Assisting with new landscaping projects and green initiatives within the town.\n, • Maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring they are safe and in good working order.\n, • Participating in snow-clearing and frost-gritting tasks, including out of hours work when necessary.\n, • Observing all health and safety risk assessments, COSHH, and regulatory measures.\n, • Cooperating with colleagues to deliver the town's vision and taking part in town events.\n\n Required Skills & Qualifications: \n\n • An interest in Horticulture.\n, • Full driving license a (must be over 25 years old due to insurance requirements).\n, • Willingness to work weekends with time off in lieu.\n, • Prepared to wear all items of PPE and follow Safe Systems of Work as instructed.\n, • Capable of filling out basic paperwork such as vehicle defect sheets and monthly worksheets.\n, • Willingness to undertake training in horticultural qualifications like NVQ level 2 and/or relevant experience.\n, • Prepared to work away from home when necessary.\n, • Willingness to attain vocational qualifications such as NPTC Safe use of Pesticides, Mowers, Chainsaws, etc.\n\n Desirable: \n\n • Basic IT skills or willingness to use IT equipment in everyday work.\n, • Basic knowledge of carpentry or other trades.\n\n Personal Attributes: \n\n • Ability to work in a team or alone with minimal supervision.\n, • Conscientious, hardworking, physically resilient and fit.\n, • Willingness to work outside of normal hours and take part in delivering town events.\n\n Benefits: \n\n • Competitive pay £13.47 per hour.\n, • Opportunities for professional development and training.\n, • Participation in local community events.\n\n To apply for the Assistant Gardener position, please submit your CV or call Ryan Gold in the Reed Plymouth Office
