This post is for a Consultant responsible for providing clinical input and leadership to Liaison Psychiatry for Working Age Adult (WAA) based at Royal Surrey County Hospital, working alongside a multidisciplinary team in line with New Ways of Working. The liaison service has a long-standing history of providing liaison inputs and the directorate offers Liaison Psychiatry services across Surrey’s five major District General Hospitals. The post holder will work with managers to influence the delivery of services to the Acute Hospital to suit local needs in East Surrey, Epsom General, Frimley Park, Royal Surrey County & St. Peter’s Hospitals. The Consultant will support existing staff in assessing, diagnosing and managing referrals for WAA presenting with mental health problems and provide medical expertise and support to Royal Surrey County Hospital staff involved in looking after patients with adult mental health presentations. The Consultant will supervise the clinical caseload of the team members and the work of any trainee doctors attached to the service. The role will support the existing liaison team in deciding the most appropriate intervention for patients referred to the service, including facilitating discharge planning and timely communication with Primary Care, Neighbourhood Teams or Inpatient Services. Please see the attached Job description that clearly states all the requirements needed to carry out this role. • MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification, • Full medical registration with a license to practice, • Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6 to 12 months of the time of interview/assessment) or equivalent, • Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications, • MRCPsych or equivalent, • Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills, • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months, • In good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice, • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment, • Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health Guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice., • Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High-Quality Care for All), • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge, • Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty, • Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA, • Experience working with various patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across different care settings, including community, inpatient, and specialist teams, • Knowledge of psychiatric provision, • Experience in management, • Specific training qualification/certificate or attendance on a recognised teaching course, • Ability to take a clinical leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality care., • Skills in providing consultation to other professional groups under New Ways of Working, • A high-level ability to effectively communicate complex and clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers, and a wide range of lay and professional people within and outside the NHS at both written and oral levels., • Ability to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
