The appointments will be for two years, with a possible extension to a third year. The position is funded by the Severo Ochoa. /p h3About IFAE /h3 pThe Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE) is a public consortium of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB, a public university) whose main objective is to carry out research and to contribute to the development of high energy physics from a theoretical, experimental and technological point of view. IFAE has the status of a “University Institute" attached to the UAB and its premises are within the campus of the University. /p h3About Theoretical Physics Group /h3 pThe candidates should have research expertise in Theoretical Physics, along the strategic lines of the Beyond the Standard Model and Astroparticle Physics and Cosmology groups ( ). These include physics beyond the Standard Model, formal aspects of quantum field theories, gravitation, gravitational waves, quantum sensing of fundamental backgrounds, cosmology and astroparticle physics. IFAE has the status of a “University Institute" attached to the UAB and its premises are within the campus of the University. /p h3About the Quantum Computing Technology (QCT) group /h3 pIn 2019, IFAE started a new line on quantum computation with superconducting circuits, the Quantum Computing Technology group, to study the implications of this emerging technology in different areas of particle physics. /p pThe Quantum Computing Technology (QCT) group at IFAE hosts a complete laboratory to perform experiments controlling superconducting qubits, including dilution refrigerators, and instrumentation for microwave signal generation and acquisition. The group also has access to a metal evaporator exclusively used to produce superconducting quantum devices. The QCT group is involved in project QRADEs for the use of qubits as detectors of particle physics events. /p h3Required skills /h3 pThe successful candidate will be expected to have: /p ul liA PhD in Astronomy, Physics or a closely related field. /li liAt least 10 years of research experience after their PhD. /li liHaving been awarded an international grant, such as a European Research Council grant or similar. /li liProven record of leading international projects. /li liOutstanding communication skills in English. /li /ul pOther valued but not required aspects for this position are: /p ul liExperience in scientific management of research projects. /li liParticipation in the organization of international events and conferences. /li liParticipation in peer-review processes of publications and grants.Participation in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. /li /ul h3What will be your role? /h3 pThe successful candidate will lead the QCT group at IFAE. ph3International Programme for Research in Groups (IP4RG) /h3 h3Permanent Call /h3 h3Description /h3 pThis CRM programme invites applications from small groups of researchers (between two and six, not necessary from the same university) who wish to organise a short and intensive period (maximum four weeks) of collaborative research usually hosted by the CRM. One of the collaborators must be a membre of the CRM or hold a position in a Catalan university. /p pThe programme will enable researchers to spend time in intensive research collaboration at the CRM, away from teaching and administration. The primary aim is to support top-quality research in the mathematical sciences, and therefore CRM encourages adventurous proposals involving novel groupings of researchers, involving international collaborators. We welcome applications from mid-career researchers, and particularly those who have had interruptions in their research careers, for example due to heavy administrative burden or caring responsibilities. The talk will compulsory take place at the CRM facilities. /li liAny publication arising from the collaboration during the IP4RG should acknowledge the support from CRM. /li liA short-written report (usually of maximum one page) about the research performed during the IP4RG is expected from the participants shortly after the stay. /li /ul h3Timeline /h3 ul liApplication deadline: applications can be submitted at any time between 6 and 12 months before the start of the desired stay. /li liAnnouncement of the call results: decisions will be taken by the CRM no later than two months, after submission of the application. /li liThere is a joint agreement between the RIG’s program in Edinburgh and the IRIG’s program in CIRM. Proposals in this modality should be submitted through the Research in Groups programmes of one of the institutions, with detailed expenses for each host institute separately.
